What bike did you have previously, and why did you change?

My street bike for the last 12 years has been a 2000 Vmax. This is the only bike I've ever had sellers remorse when getting rid of it. I really really loved that bike and that motor just made me smile every time. Paid $6,500 and sold it for $3,200. After normal repairs and maintenance and a few farkles, this bike cost me $1.16 a day to own! What a value.

Anyway, I'll be 50 this year and it was time to treat myself to my first ever brand new street bike. Wanted something that still had a bit of hooliganism at heart, but a bit more practical and comfortable. Enter the 2019 Tracer GT. Zero miles on the odometer when I picked it up.

Cheers

I had 3 VMaxes. A Yellow 1994, a red 1995 and the 1st year carbon fiber 1999. Had 2 - ZRX1100's, 2 - ZX11 Ninjas and now the 2015 FJ-09. Definitely a fun bike!

Ain't no fun when the rabbit gets the gun!

I've had allot of bikes

1st bike was a CT70 then a CT90

I had an MX100, DT175, and still have a KDX200 for trail riding

First street bike was a Harley Sportster but I got sick of scraping around every corner. Bought a 1979 GS750 customized and rebuilt the engine...

I started to get excited about small displacement motorcycles and got a Ninja 300. Loved it went allot of places on it. Still miss it actually. I also have a TZR250 that is being completely restored as a hybrid track/street bike.

Now I rock the FJ.

I'm kind of an odd bird: the FJ is my third motorcycle since 2008 / ~55,000 mi. Both of my previous bikes were Buells: a 2003 XB9R in white, and a 2009 1125CR in red. Both were really cool engineering-wise and quite unique with the CR only having 3,099 made worldwide. They handled like they were superglued to the road surface. I wouldn't change anything about the power or handling, at all. The Buell community is also something that I haven't found an equal to ... something about a niche brand brings owners and enthusiasts in tight.

I'd change the reliability of the CR: had multiple problems keeping it on the road. Stator and rotor, VRs, hydraulic clutch weep, and keeping a good battery in the darn thing.

I wish they'd stuck the 1125 Rotax-built Helicon engine into a taller, adventure-type bike like the Ulysses. That's ultimately why I had to sell—my body (read: back) couldn't handle the ergonomics anymore over longer rides, including commuting two hours per day. I needed something more upright.

Thus, the FJ fills the voids and only leaves me wishing for a little more grunt down low (MT-10 GT)!

Coming in from a Harley Davidson Road Glide. Before that I had a HD Street Glide, HD Dyna, and HD Sporter. Been on Harley's the last six years. Before that though I was riding a Kawasaki Ninja 636, a Honda 600RR, and learned to ride on a Honda CBR 954RR. It's been an adventure, but so far liking the FJ on the 120 miles I've put on it since picking it up yesterday.

  • 2 weeks later...
I usually have a few bikes on the go at any time but keep a daily driver for long periods of time. My recent daily was a 2006 ZX-14 that I put 136,000 km's on. Loved it very much but I've just moved away from "SPIRITED" riding.

Before that was my first 'new' bike. A 2007 Versys 650 that I rode for 90k.

My wife also bought me a pickup full of parts for my birthday one year A 1981 Kawai police bike with kick start.  Ended up being one of my favorite builds. Great little café/rat bike that I've sold recently.

Before that my first bike (started late in life) was a 1983 Interceptor. Bought it off my buddy for a case of beer. Wasn't running but we fixed that. He was the one that painted it yellow. Great bike for me to learn on.

Had Honda NC700X which has no power, no ABS, no traction control, no choice of driving modes, poor brakes and no fun.
Apart from that, perfectly OK... ::)

Riding a fully-farkled 2019 MT-09 Tracer 900 GT from my bayside home in South East Queensland, Australia.
