  1. No oil burning for me, but 6th gear whine, yep still there. Not a deal breaker for me, but I wish it was gone. All my Hondas never had this in any gear. Some 9's might be louder than others. I still think the whine is why so many used ones are on the market with no miles. I've ridden a few other Yamahas but not enough to know about their gear whine. It just seems like Yamaha doesn't take the time or care at assembly to make things perfect. I'm convinced those 2 gears for 6th are too tight, not shimmed correctly. I wonder if you bitched hard and long enough if it would be fixed under warranty.
  2. Wow, I can't even do 5 hours in a car. Just did a (car) road trip from cenral PA to Oshkosh WI. That was with an overnight and no near 5 hrs. at one time without meal or other stops. If I can raise my bike seat time to over 2.5 hours without pain I'd be happy.
  3. So what does 2-300 miles equate to in time? On the back roads I ride most, 100 miles with stops is 3 or 4 hours.🤣 Well, a lot of stops. If I'd hit the hiway at 80 mph or more, 200 miles comes fast. I have to get off the seat at 1.5 hours, then after that the stints get shorter.
  4. Thanks, I just don't know. I love the looks of the Sargent plus that the base is wider but surprised that it's still like a brick. I think they are too worried about seat height. No problem for me. Anyone else want to chime in?
  5. I'll run the rear down to just seeing the cords. Inspect after every ride. No slipping.
  6. Decided to add to this thread. I've had my front Sargent seat for all summer now and it still hurts after an hour on my 2015. It's at both left and right "sit" bones in my butt. I'm 6ft 2 in, 32 inseam and 350 lbs. Contacted Sargent and they said I can ship it back and they'll add an inch of foam for $110 and ship it back for $20. Is this worth it? Will an inch help? Good thing is I got the seat for $250 shipped, got in on one of the deals. Seat now is $420 !!! Butt comfort is my only problem with the longer rides I want to take.
  7. I used the same Ebay kit. same cap not used.
  8. Forgot to mention on the FZ-07, MT-07, etc. The CP2 design is awesome! All vertical twins should be made this way. I was impressed when I had mine. If they could have made it 800 to 900 CC it would have been a keeper. The sound and power left "normal" vertical twins behind.
  9. Got mine too, except mine is on a metal plate back ground. Oooo that evil mercury... Can't let the public have anything dangerous today. I'll keep my plugs in for at least 16K miles. When in there for the valves I'll change them then. If memory serves my 83 650 Nighthawk wanted new plugs every 4k miles. 😵
  10. Using the CP3 designation on the tripple is a stretch. Each crank pin set at 120 degrees is normal. Now on the Yamaha inline 4 it is unusual how the crank is set up and is special.
  11. Other thought I have is critters. They love to chew through wires. If they chew through injector wires no start.
  12. Is it spinning FASTER than normal not sounding the same? ARE you in the US using ethanol gas? Did you just come off a 5400 mile trip? This sounds like what happened to more then a few people on the ST1300 forum. Long trip followed by an extended down time. The ethanol (sugar) hardens on the valves and hold some open, stuck solid. No compression. More than one ST1300 owner had the engine torn down only to find this. Got to get some carb cleaner into the engine, whether spraying into air cleaner or removing TB's and spraying directly. With some extended cranking and spraying it will loosen and bike will be fine.
  13. What do you mean?? It was settled 40 years ago.
  14. Let us all know what your valves are at 17500 miles. I'm trying to find a good mileage to do mine. So far aiming for 16k miles, the usual Honda interval. My shim type Honda's never needed an adjustment the whole time I owned them though.
  15. Clip is gone.. There's your sign. Clip type are unacceptable. Especially on a high HP bike.
  16. I haven't looked closely at the switches on the Yamaha. On Hondas when this happens there is a hole underneath and you could sand the contacts when they weather to make them work again.
  17. Thanks for that, almost shot breakfast back out. I'm SURE all those people wanted to have a stump. My engine is always off.
  18. Didn't you guys just start the pleasures of ethanol over there??
  19. This is a REALLY opened up air box intake....WOW. Don't know if I want to go that far, would need a specific flash for it. Jed, if you're here post up. If not, join.
  20. Other then flat tires, I've never needed roadside repairs on any bike I've owned. Never been stranded. This includes wrecks and deer strikes. Only thing is if you snap off the shifter, footpeg, brake lever, clutch lever, etc. in a wreck. Can't fix that without parts.
