  1. Gee, I was proud I got out for an hour at 45F Friday. Only in my younger days when I didn't have a car and women were involved was I wiping frost off my seat to ride home at 3 AM.
  2. Just going to throw this out IMHO. I will never change out front turn signals that are also running lights. I have on other bikes converted the fronts TO running lights. I sure don't want small microscopic turn signals. No matter how bright they are, if you decrease the area covered they are less noticeable. I want all the help I can get with being seen from the front. I think people are geared to seeing bikes with a head light and turn signals lit up. Bikes were like that since the 70's. Helps with telling speed and distance too. A single head light gets lost and you can't tell how far away it is. Don't even get me started about bikes with no front lights or the headlight is aimed at the ground/can't see it anyway.
  3. I think I'd be changing those bearings. But since I've never had my rear end apart and probably wont for awhile what do I know. When it's assembled does the plastic have a job or is it just so the bearing is "an assembly" and not just loose needles?
  4. The problem comes in with all the slack and movement the chain jumps teeth on the crank. You have to check timing after final install. When I do it I'll set at 125 degrees then paint marks on the chain, cam gears and crank gear.
  5. Should be an interesting project. You can swap all the scuffed pieces with yours. Good luck and give us progress reports. I'd check the clutch. He might have been a wheelie nut and that can break clutch disks.
  6. That is a well used option on the Honda ST1300. OEM sells the ENTIRE tank unit at big $$$.
  7. Pretty sure Yamaha has a VIN check for recalls on their site. You could also go to any dealer and have a VIN check.
  8. I was surprised by these low sides, can't tell if the front(s) or rear let go.
  9. I'm coming to the (correct??) conclusion that my sitting pain is from getting older. I have the slope mod, custom Sargent seat with 1.5 inches extra foam and I'm still only good for a bit over 1.5 hours at one time in the saddle. Then it's time to stop and stretch/get off my butt. I'm done spending $$$ on it. although the above is an improvement from where it was.
  10. Welcome! I've got a soft spot for TN. Bought my first bike (83 Honda 650 Nighhawk) in Millington in 84 while in "A" School in the Navy there. Liked it there, good riding. Sadly they retasked that base and the dealer is gone. No more bunch of young guys rotating through constantly. I bet 95% of their business was military. True of a lot of towns and businesses.
  11. But then the wheels are out of alignment. So which is more important?
  12. I refuse to give in and think I had my last ride this year. Although it might be true.☚đŸĨļ
  13. Since it's colder out the winter gas is more volatile to aid starting.
  14. Summer maintenence wasn't anything to write home about either.
  15. Ring end gap checked? Can the crankcase breather handle the extra volume?
  16. So got mine in the mail today, after it's round trip around PA.😡 Easy install, only thing I've noticed is the shims + Velcro is higher than the shim under the tank mount. Had a hard time getting my Sargent seat under the metal tab and the rubbers over the shims. Now this might be a problem with the Sargent also. Got it in and I'm happy, it is a big improvement in seating comfort. You don't realize how much your fighting the sliding forward till you don't have to. Bike is as perfect as I can make it...Just in time for winter.☚ī¸
  17. Plus it shows how to remove dash and disassemble to get moisture off inside of lens.👍
  18. Finally got around to using the bottle of Drislide I got what, 3 months ago. I tried dribbling 3 different lubes down my throttle cables in the past...Nothing gets down to the end. Throttle hard to turn. You can't use the cable lubers, can't connect to throttle cables. Shook bottle of Drislide, installed needle, and started squirting into end of cables with throttle disassembled at tube on handlebar. This stuff is thin, flows better than water! before I knew it I had a mess under my bike from it coming out dripping at the TB end. Totally found the bad spot in my cables and now the throttle turns SUPER easy! Best lube for cables I've ever found! Saved me $35 for a new cable I was going to buy and change out this winter. 👍🙂 THANKS Betoney!!
  19. Just watched your video. Why did they give such a large important bolt a 4mm size? my kit is currently lost in USPS land. (what else is new) Denver to Pittsburgh, right past me near Harrisburg, to Philly. Why send it to Philly!! What's wrong with them!! They wonder why costs are up!! I was supposed to get it yesterday. Sorry rant off. Weather now cold and wet here, wonder if I'll get a good test ride.
  20. My Auto Zone and a bunch of other stores had empty pegs to look at.
  21. Hope the new basket holds up with time and miles. If mine starts the GRONK I'll know what to do.
  22. one other detractor for me is use of 90 octane no ethanol unless on a ride when I need to fill up. Bike weight does mask bad fueling and this is a light bike. My only other FI bike was an ST1300. Too much weight. Main reason I left it for my FJ-09.
  23. 1 and 1/16th in. same thing. Once you get in the bigger metric bolts and nuts English will do. front sprocket is 1 and 3/16th in. Just bought one. Couldn't find the metric one in stock anywhere with Covid low inventory.
