  1. yeah this is just ridiculous. anyone know if it improved on the Tracer 9 GT?
  2. I went through DV in August a couple years ago. The trip prompted me to get my inReach satcom (just before the trip), since the thought of getting stuck somewhere somehow was rather scary. I think we experienced 115F. I imagine simple things like getting stuck under a bike on that burning asphalt and shudder.
  3. hmm, I interested in this: what is the whole travel tool kit ya'll are carrying to do the tire off/on, internal patch, set the bead? I've been on the road and found it easier to find a replacement tire than it is to find a shop able to do the work. I haven't removed/installed a tire yet. Not at home, much less on the road.
  4. Looks nice. Does "tunnel" mean something or is it just a brand name?
  5. it'll make your butt fat! Most importantly, your butt may not smoothly follow after your handle bars squeeze through!
  6. is this accepted? No bike in the pic, but I was sitting on it. If I'd been paying attention to the challenge and known what it is I'd have done a better job :). South Creek Falls, just west of Johnsondale Bridge, Mtn Hwy 99 near the Kern River. Taken Sunday Memorial Day Weekend.
  7. Well, it says it's old. I'd go with that!
  8. Interesting. And an Android user may be tracked by an Airtag and never know it. Scary world we are entering.
  9. This does not count, it is a BMW rental and an old picture. Oct 2019, Savannah GA, Bonaventure Cemetery.
  10. My goodness, thanks! These were sort of queued up as "maybe" since I first saw them. The discount code worked as intended by the vendor, since it prompted me to pull the trigger. So now I am ready for ... what? the next winter in southern California!?
  11. Back in January 2019 I took mine to Fun Bike Center (in Kearny Mesa) for the 600 mile. $214 for parts and labor. No throttle body synch was performed, I vaguely recall that I asked about it and they said "that really doesn't need to be done unless there is an indication it is needed." Usually though I go to a small local shop, Poway Motorcycle. They did the 4000 mile for $211, about the same. I've been satisfied with both shops actually, no complaints.
  12. As far as attaching things on the back, I am fond of this bungie system which I've used for my Maxpedition bags, but the bungies could be used for other bags as well. Bungie is simply wrapped around the supports under the pillion seat. This was originally posted in a tail bag topic which might be worth looking at,
  13. I think this is going pretty well. Sounds like when all is said and done, you won't be worried about the latch anymore.
  14. ... you always turn to look when you hear them riding by. ... you have the urge to wave even when driving the cage.
  15. My fear would be scratching the screen.
  16. BTW, I am certainly looking forward to learning the answer to the original q. I looked at the pix and the yes/no is not obvious to me.
  17. I really do like them smaller and I think they're just right. The look is good, and I have confidence that if my handlebars squeeze through something (e.g. car lanes) the back will follow without drama. It is true that cargo is not always easy. But I don't ride two-up, and so far I've found I can trim down the load to fit if I include a bag on the tail. Storing a helmet would be nice sometimes, but I want to define my storage space by what I carry when on the bike, not off the bike. I love the fact the FJR cases fit for those who want more storage. Choices are awesome. If I used aftermarket, I'd look for something like Shad 23 or Givi 22.
  18. I love the smaller cases. Big'uns would make my butt look fat.
  19. I haven't been on these roads west of Paso Robles, I'll have to give 'em a try!
  20. The serendipitous stuff great days are made of! This writeup just makes me think I need to find a weekend for myself, and soon, and I'd likely hit many the same roads. In younger days I used to go to Kernville a couple times a year for white water kayaking. Fond memories include burgers at El Rio by the river park. Now when I happen to ride through, every now and then, I always stop for a burger.
  21. But how do you get the Waze speed trap info without using a smart phone?
