Made my fat shorty windscreen. Followed the stock screens lower profile just made it two inches wider and much shorter.

Made two mistakes. First, I thought the adjuster was in the lowest position when I marked to drill the holes, it was in the highest. So the screen is slightly lower than I anticipated.

Secondly, the first pattern was nice and symmetrical but the hand guards hit, I wasn't as careful marking it the second time so when I cropped the corners I got it very slightly off. Just enough to bug the crap out of me.

I've got enough to do it again but I'm going to ride it like this for a while to see if I want to make any changes to it.

I road mine today up and around Marlinton, WV. Beautiful, cool, dry Labor Day Weekend at the Old Clark Inn. Green Bank Radio Telescope in the background.

I crashed it. After 22 years of crash-free riding, I had my first off-the-bike experience yesterday while riding with an R6 and a (2) R1's. Yamaha built a strong bike in the FJ-09. I was leading the ride, and I came up on a much slower rider (Harley poser) in a corner, and had to either hit him or go off-roading. I chose the latter. I ended up getting air twice. I got slowed down to around 35 mph before I laid her down. Those ugly hand guards that I had considered removing totally did their job. Neither the clutch lever, brake reservoir, cables, nor my hand suffered any damage. The suspension all seems undamaged (I rode another 115 miles after the crash.) The Rox risers didn't move a bit. After cleaning her up, I found no permanent damage besides some scratches on the hand guard and mirror, all of which could be replaced cheaply. What did I learn? Get some frame sliders. If I had gone down on pavement, or if there had been gravel where I dropper her, the engine and transmission covers would have been smoked (see the mud on said covers.) Also, always wear your gear. The heat index here was 93, but I'd have a screwed up arm if I hadn't been wearing a jacket.
Im glad your Alpine Star Boots and pants saved your legs and feet. 22 years and you ride like a squid bro. AS a harley rider you make me laugh, as an FJ owner you make me embarrassed. Im sure your new ebay add selling your FJ would be "2015 Fj-09, mature rider, never dropped, looking to trade up for a harley."

I wear the gear that I believe I need based on the damage I've seen to the riding gear of others I've seen crash. Their jackets, gloves, and helmets had rash, their jeans and shoes don't. So, I wear what I think I need based on what I've seen. And, based on the 1 crash I've had, it was a sound decision. But, that's ok. You go ahead and be pompous ass and try to offend me, and talk about Harleys. I don't know how they fit into this conversation, but since you mentioned them, I can tell you that I saw 3 of them on their sides at the Tail of the Dragon and Skyway this weekend (even helped push one of them out of a ditch) and I saw zero Japanese bikes down. I'll wave at you as I pass you on whichever of your bikes you're riding.

Made my fat shorty windscreen...
IMG_20160904_114559764.jpg

Looks great. Clear is nice. Let us know how it performs.
Did a little three hour ride this morning and I like it. The turbulent wind hits me at about my collar bones, nothing but smooth air around my helmet. Felt good at 90mph and feels great at lower speeds, plenty of airflow.

I liked the clear too but unfortunately I was cleaning the bug guts off of it when I got home and  grabbed a rag full of metal swarf and proceeded to scratch the piss out of it.

Good old black Plasti Dip  to the rescue. Not the look I wanted but it's only temporary anyway, the stock screen will go back on when it cools off and I'll likely actually spend some money on an aftermarket shorty for next spring. Or make another one...

Installed Rox Speed  Antivibration Risers.  I could live without these, as my hands rarely buzz to sleep, but I have noticed that 5-5.5K vibration and it can be bothersome.  Someone else had a problem with the buzz and installed these 2" risers on the OEM mounts and noted no vibration at all.  I had to try them, right?  If I don't like them, as they are making the handlebar post have a rubber link, so they may make the handling vague, I will sell them.  I will give it a go and let you all know what I think.  I also used a 2" high mount left over from when I bought the GPR4 for my FZ 09.  It worked perfect to keep the handlebars in the same location as stock, which I like.  I went ahead and bought these from Rox Speed as they were only $3 more than Revzilla and Cycle Gear, and with free shipping (cut out the middle man).

I ordered $2000 worth of parts to correct the deer damage. There's a half dozen other items that I am going to live with. Since I plan on putting at least 105K on this bike, a perfect this or a perfect that isn't going to make much difference, so the paint chips on the tank will be touched up with paint, and the minor crack in the rear black panel, behind the side bag bracket will be left or glued, and the scratches on the front forks between the triple trees will be left, as you can't see them. Those will save me enough to get a new rear Ohlin shock and cartridges for the fronts and a few other things.  :)

Sorry for the delayed response, still getting used to the forum.
I can comfortably get 3 fingers on each while my hand is centered in the grip.
They have long versions also but I've had some prior experience with the shorties and like them

Added ASV adj levers.

Those look very nice, but really short - how many fingers can you get on the brake lever?Cheers
