  1. Yes, one side has slightly different dimensions. If the price is fair, it sounds like a good DIY project, I'm sure you wouldn't need too much modification, if at all.
  2. I have never heard of a chain being toast in under 5k miles and have never lost or ruined any O-Rings on my street or dirt bikes. How do you maintain the chain? because like most on here have posted, 'average' life from a chain, even the oem chain is around 17k-18k miles.
  3. I love riding that whole area, Highways 20, 22 and 126 going to Sisters, including McKenzie Pass are all amazing.πŸ‘
  4. Congrats on the new bike. LOTS of useful info on this site, the search feature will net you more info than you can read in a week. Don't wait until winter to get a radiator guard, do that first thing.
  5. Yes, right after purchasing the bike I removed all of the safety stickers using a heat gun and a flat plastic scraper to lift the edge of the sticker, the edge is similar to a credit card. The stickers came right off with most of the adhesive.
  6. My buddy, who lives in Bend, has a custom seat from Mr Ed's Moto on his FJ. Its a very comfortable, quality made seat. Nothing beats a custom seat made just for you.πŸ‘
  7. Since it has a matte finish, you wont want to use a 'polish' since that will defeat the purpose, you just want to clean it. Looking on Google there are many dozens of sprays or cleaners for matte or satin finishes.
  8. On the original FJ09, our owners manual stated 5-15mm slack😲 obviously WAAAY too tight. Since 2015 it has been widely accepted that 30-35mm is a much safer amount of slack. The newer Tracer has a slightly longer swingarm but I'm not certain that the slack should be that much different, 65-75mm seems like alot. Concerning a torque wrench, do what you feel comfortable with but I never use a torque wrench on the axle nut. If you read through the service manual, there is a torque value for every fastener on the bike -In my opinion- that's overkill.
  9. Is that just glue residue or are those scratches? If it is just glue, then try Goo Gone or other adhesive remover. Don't forget to remove that safety warning sticker as well.
  10. Do it in the winter time when the bike is in hibernation, that way you can take your time and not miss any riding.
  11. It will get damaged every time you swap the tires and get dinged up by normal use and could get ugly looking if you have parts of it chipped up and missing. Im not sure how well plasti-dip holds up to washing but my rims get very dirty and if the plasti-dip has a coarse surface it could hold all of that dirt.
  12. I would NOT use Plasti-Dip on the rims, it is a temporary solution and not extremely durable, it is made to peel off. For the rims you will want to get them powder coated which is extremely durable. Available in many colors and finishes.
  13. While we had beautiful weather as well and I was able to get a 350 mile ride in with my brother, it was also the first weekend after our state loosened up stay at home restrictions for outdoor recreation... What an absolute SH!T SHOW!!! Every body and their brother was out in hordes, the roads were clogged with trucks pulling boat trailers, jet ski's, RV/s, quads, dirtbikes etc. And of course the biker clubs were out riding like idiots, 20-30 riders in groups swerving in and out of traffic at close to 100mph and passing on blind corners. Fortunately I was able to get out earlier in the week and do long solo rides while everyone else was at work, I was able to ride just over 1200 miles this week. πŸ‘
  14. I use these and find them simple, cheap and effective. I can rest the bottom my foot on them like a stirrup or extend my legs and rest the back of my ankle. With damaged knees, I use these almost every time I ride. EXTENDED 2014 2015 2016 Yamaha FZ-09 FZ09 Frame Sliders FJ-09 2018 USA This set of sliders will fit on a 2014, 2015 or 2016 Yamaha FZ-09. Will also...
  15. That's the best way to run errands on a bike! πŸ‘
  16. You can absolutely get the internal valving set up "plush" when you have a shock built. When discussing options, they will ask you your weight and the type of riding you intend to do, do you carry luggage or a passenger etc. You can also back off the adjusters to feel more of the spring, I did that just the other day, one days ride was mostly faster, twisty roads and the next day was sweeping curves and longer rural highways and I backed off the damping just a bit to make it less firm feeling.
  17. I'll be interested to see how those wear in a few thousand miles. Either you got a defective tire or your road surfaces are seriously funky.
  18. I was down in your relative neck of the woods on Thursday, I crossed over from Longview and rode Apiary, Vernonia, Timber, Tillamook, Garibaldi, Jewell, Mist and Clatskanie. Almost no traffic except in Tillamook. And I ride mostly solo for exactly the same reasons you listed.
  19. Yeah, my dealer had one on the showroom when they were released at the first of the year and it was definitely dark orange, The sales guy and I were looking it over and he commented several times about the new color, how he wished it was deeper red. I wasn't sold on the 2019 Blurple and silver at first but now I really like those colors together.
  20. I get that alot as well. When I do a day trip I choose a destination and ride there and have a late lunch then ride home, sometimes that is across the mountains in Yakima or across the border in Oregon, sometimes its Astoria or yesterday I rode to Tillamook. People usually ask where I am coming from, when I say Olympia, Washington, they ask what I am doing so far away from home, and I answer "I rode here for lunch", that usually gets some odd looks.😎
  21. When the sheriff was filling out his report he asked me if I wanted to take the deer. Considering my bike was now totaled and my riding gear was all torn up, I told him to let it rot.
  22. I wonder if it is just the circuitry of the USB charger and not the current draw? I have LED daytime running lights, a GPS and USB charger/voltmeter wired to the 'switched' outlets behind the screen. They all operate fine whether it is just key on or engine on. Its definitely not too much draw for the bikes system as in the cold season I also have heated grips and a heated vest in use as well.
  23. Ok, I cant help you with that. Those 4 plugs behind the screen have power when the key is turned on. What are you wanting to connect that needs the engine running to turn them on?
  24. Thanks for sharing your story. You are not alone with your deer encounters, several members on this forum have experienced the same, at least one - @redfjniner has had 3 deer encounters.😲 My encounter happened at lunch time, I was having fun on some rural farm roads when a deer ran out of the bushes across the road. I hit it perpendicular, T-boned it right in the middle. It went into the right ditch and I slid across the road into the left ditch, very fortunate that there was no oncoming traffic at that moment (2 large oncoming utility boom trucks had just passed me 10 seconds earlier) or I would have been road kill. It can happen to anyone at any time, wear all the gear and stay vigilant.
