  1. I have been using Bridgestones for a few years now, currently on my 5th set now. Great tires, especially considering the price, I have never paid over $250 (including sales tax) for a set, combine that with their twice yearly $60 rebate and they end up being $190 a set. Pirelli Angel GT is another great tire to consider. I have nothing but great things to say about them.

I have had no issues with the Vololight, I had to change the sensitivity lower as, according to my riding buddies behind me, it was flashing all of the time. 2 years in, still works as advertised. The Blaster has a lot of options for programming and they can be confusing, I just left it on the default setting. I wired it so it works in addition to the turn signals so they work exactly like in this video.
  3. I had taken the grab handles off a long time ago, during the stay at home order I found them on a shelf in the garage so I decided to get creative. I cut the front extended portion off to make them a little more sleek and since I like my bike to be a little unique, I chose to paint them silver to add a bit of contrast to all of the black on the back end. The front and rear LED signals are X-Arc X-Arc Lights - the brightest LED Brake lights, turn signals, tail lights The license plate frame is made by VoloLights, it has a built in accelerometer which detects deceleration or forward pitch and the LED flashes brightly.   4. Even though the posted limit was 40mph, when I would hit the corners at 80-85-90, I'm almost certain I could hear the tires let out a bored YAWN and whisper "sissy!!!". 😎
  5. No, I reshaped mine, I cut off the front section, sanded all of the angles smooth and painted them silver like the newer Tracer/ GT.
  6. I adjusted the suspension (slightly less compression damping F & R) so I had to go out for a 160 mile test ride... just to make sure. This goes through Wynoochee Valley, out to the dam and back is 70 miles of curves like this WITH NO TRAFFIC. More than ample to verify the suspension settings.😎👍 The Bridgestone S22's laugh at corners like this at 85mph.
  7. Yes, they are in a small tool pouch I keep in my tank bag. I don't use a torque wrench to tighten the axle so I can get the nut off with a 3/8 drive ratchet, it takes some effort though.
  8. I wouldn't worry about it, I have never replaced plugs with less than 22k miles and even then it was only because it was a part of the valve service. The plugs aren't as fragile as the owners manual would lead you to believe.
  9. I was thinking about that and asked myself "what 'maintenance or repairs' would you ever do out on the road?". If you have an engine failure you are going to call a tow truck, I carry a plug kit for a flat tire- no tools required, and if its a tire "failure" you are going to call either an ambulance or a tow truck. I have a ratchet, socket and wrench for adjusting the chain. When I am working on the bike in my garage I rarely use individual wrenches, except once a year when I service the shock linkage. There is nothing I would use a screwdriver for, except a stubby to change the position of the control switch pods on the handlebars. A lot of the fasteners are hex bit so I carry an Allen key set to access the side panel for fuses and coolant and adjusting the lever position or handlebars. I have all of the vacant 'spare' slots in the fuse panels populated with additional fuses but if you have an electrical issue are you going to carry a VOM, electrical contact cleaner, soldering iron or splicing equipment? There's just not a lot of simple repairs to be done on the side of the road and 'maintenance' will already be completed before leaving. I'm sure there will always be a "what if" or 1 in 10,000 scenario.
  10. The ABS pump is inactive until needed, the fluid just passes through. When the wheel sensors detect a skid and the wheels get out of sync then the ABS solenoids activate. If you pulled the fuse for the ABS, your brakes would still function normally, except the anti-lock function. Is your brake issue happening to both the front and rear? I don't know if you have salts and corrosives on the road surface but I would check the cleanliness of the caliper pistons. Buy a can or 2 of brake parts cleaner and some green kitchen scrub pads, not the red ones as they are too abrasive. Remove the calipers one at a time, pump the brake lever to extend the pistons (careful not to extend them too far) and gently clean the crap and corrosion. The entire sliding surface of each piston should be shiny. Also pull the slide pin for each set of brake pads and make sure it is clean and smooth with no grooves for the pads to hang up on.
  11. The road surface does appear to be quite coarse, I wonder if that contributed the bizarre wear on your Michelins.
  12. Its for ANYTHING that can fly up off the road and puncture the radiator, that's a quick way to ruin your day.
  13. Welcome and congrats on the new bike. "Mods" and "too crazy" don't belong together in the same sentence.😎 There is a lot of collective knowledge and opinions on what works for this bike, feel free to ask. One recommendation right away though, get a radiator guard. Your photos confirm some recent discussion here about the 2020 color, depending on the camera angle and lighting -to me- it looks dark burnt orange or a tomato red. Enjoy the new ride, its a fantastic bike.
  14. I'm not sure what you mean by 'towing'. In the photo above you can kind of see their size, they are only as strong as the bolt that attaches them to the bike. I would have no issue using them front and rear as tie-down points for hauling a bike in a pick-up.
  15. Its a relatively popular mod for the FZ/ MT but you have to disassemble the instrument panel, I didn't know that it was offered for the FJ09.

  20. I have Matts 'advanced' option , both fork legs have compression and rebound pistons and rebound adjustment caps and the left leg has a compression screw at the base. As great as Matts cartridges are, I have often wondered how different aftermarket cartridges would feel. I have ridden a buddys FJ with the Stoltec cartridge kit and while they are a very noticeable upgrade, Matts forks are superior. If the Ohlins cartridges are another step up from Matts forks then I would be tempted. Please keep us updated with a comparison. Since you are in Georgia, have you considered Traxxion Dynamics? Their AK-20 fork cartridges are highly regarded as some of the best available. I ordered my Penske shock from them and it is AMAZING.
  21. That was right off the interstate in Olympia. We have the 3rd highest gas tax in the nation but that only accounts for $0.50 a gallon.
  22. The important thing when getting a shock built is honest communication with the builder so they know exactly how you will be using it and can spring and valve it accordingly. Buying a prebuilt off the shelf shock like through Revzilla will definitely be an improvement but will have a generic (although probably very good) shim stack vs an 'exact' shim stack tailored to your needs. For the price, the Ohlins sounds like a great deal. My brother has that same shock on his Honda 919 and it is awesome! Do you already have fork cartridges?
  23. Just as a point of reference, my '15 still has the original battery and starts instantly hot or cold. I have never had to 'crank' the motor to get it to start. If I am not going to be riding for several weeks or prolonged winter break then it has the battery tender attached.
