  1. Measuring it on the center stand is the ONLY way that I have ever set chain tension. Page 7-25 of the owners manual, Check drive chain slack. Step 1. Place the motorcycle on the center-stand.
  2. ^^Exactly this^^ - Now that I have developed muscle memory for "____"
  3. To those who own or have ridden other brands, is the stock fueling as harsh and abrupt as Yamaha? I have ridden several models of Kawasaki, Honda and Aprilia and have not experienced anything close to Yamaha's jerky throttle. Since the inception of the CP3, reviews praise the motor but always mention terrible fueling, my previous Gen II FZ1 had terrible fueling as well. Since owning Yamaha I have had to adjusted my riding style with much smoother throttle input that I don't need to use when I ride other brands. Is this unique to Yamaha? Do any other manufacturers have these issues?
  4. No worries, its only $1.40. I appreciate you getting the product listed. πŸ‘
  5. Crap, I ordered too soon, missed the discount. Oh well...
  6. Any chance of getting that FJ09 design on a coffee mug? Currently I only find one design on the coffee mug.
  7. Dave Moss touched your bike? You know you can never wash your bike again, right? 😎 Seriously, Dave is a suspension guru! What an opportunity to have him wrench on your bike. Several years ago I went to a rally and was fortunate enough to attend a cornering/braking clinic with Nick Ienatsch.
  8. Well, that's no fun. I was just through there last week, from Sun Valley up to Stanley, then into Lowman and then Boise and finally North all the way to Moscow. GREAT riding, the Sawtooth Range is beautiful and HWY21 out of Lowman is a sport riders dream!
  9. The only thing better than riding in the twisties... is riding in the twisties with lots of elevation changes!! 😎
  10. @superfist - Congratulations, beautiful bike! I cant figure it out, every time I take my bike to the shop, I get the same old bike back...???
  11. That might be a little on the tight side. Personally, I would loosen it a bit.
  12. Damn, Scott, that is a LOT of rain. I hope you make it through unscathed.
  13. @mkbrooks - Since I have upgraded almost everything on my '15 FJ to current "GT specs" (except for quick shifter) I personally would have bought a GT if it was available at the time and would do the same today if I was faced with the same decision.
  14. Where are you getting "revamped specs" of 2.5-3.5" of chain slack? It should be about 1"-1.25" slack.
  15. @Clegg78 - All models, FJ and Tracer have ABS and TCS and changing sprockets does not change the speedometer accuracy. I changed to +2 on the rear for more acceleration, I verified speed with a GPS before and after the change, it reads the same.
  16. True, Yamaha already has the R1 for pure sport and the FJR for touring. A do-it-all "hybrid" type bike will always be a compromise for some riders. We are fortunate to have this model that is as versatile and crosses over to both sport and touring as well as it does. You can tear it up in mountain and canyon twisties and then load on the side bags and head out on a week-long road trip with the comfort of heated grips and cruise control (and STILL tear it up in mountain and canyon twisties). 😎
  17. Don’t age yourself so prematurely, there’s nothing to say that those of us in our 50’s need to slow down, especially on the Tracer. The bike definitely leans more to the SPORT side of sport touring and many of us on this forum ride her accordingly. 😎
  18. Instead of waiting for the part to be in stock you could buy a rebuild kit, rebuilding the master cylinder should take about 15 minutes.
  19. Great write up on both the suspension and road trip. Even though I just got back from a 10 day road trip less than a week ago, I would love to take off again tomorrow. Glad to hear that you are enjoying the suspension upgrades, you should easily be able to get it softened up, the nice thing with quality suspension is; riding nirvana is usually just 1-2 clicks away.
  20. Going too fast or having fun? 😎. At 5k you are just getting into the fun zone.
  21. I tried both their standard and taller sport touring seats on my FJ, I didn't like either one, they were only a very minor improvement from stock. I ended up getting a custom seat made. Just my opinion. YMMV.
  22. Besides spring preload for setting rider sag, the only setting you can change is rebound damping. There is no compression adjustability on the rear shock.
  23. The screen is from a GEN II FZ1, I had it left over from my previous bike. I like the size and shape so I decided to modify it to fit the FJ. For cruise control I use MCCruise with the Super Tenere control pod for a factory look. It works fantastic.
  24. @2linby - My buddy lives in Bend, Or and has a Mr. Eds custom seat just like pictured above. We just got back from a 4,100 mile road trip, most days averaged 450 miles with a few being slightly over 500 miles. We were on the road each morning around 7:30 and rode until dinnertime, for 10 days straight. I have a custom seat from a different shop and neither of us had to take excessive breaks during the day, infact after 10 days in the saddle, my butt was the one thing that didn't ache, unlike my back, shoulders and knees. IMHO, a custom seat is some of the best money I have spent on my bike, second only to custom suspension. I would much rather spend the money for a custom seat, measured, shaped and built specifically for me than a generic off the shelf Sargent or Corbin seat.
