@Husqy - Your bike is super clean, looks good.

Thanks @betoney. I waited patiently for a Candy Red FJ to become available in my area in the used market in 2017. Love the red with the gold forks. It was especially clean as I gave her a good scrub right before that road trip ;)

I've added a beak and a full delkevic system since... over the moon with her now!

I'm 6'4" as well.  I've come from exclusively naked and standard bikes, typically just with small decorative screens, and wind pressure has no effect on me at all - I've never found wind on a motorcycle to be even remotely tiring, I just lean on it and relax.

But the buffetting is kind of annoying, and I've been contemplating doing something similar, and pulling my windscreen in favour of a small fly screen.  Got pics of what you did with yours?

Hey yeah definitely, this is what it looks like in touring mode. Since that picture I wrapped the screen in black vinyl instead (it used to be frosted black).

Just took the stock screen, which was garbage, and used a string + grease pencil to mark the height in a constant radius. I then taped it up, used a jig to cut away most of it, then a rotary grinder to bring it down to final size and smooth it out!

I’m 6.1 and run the Parabellum 26.  it  Works great for me.

i have the Comfort Seat in the high position.

But if you’re 3 inches taller I don’t think the 26 would be big enough.  Rough air flows just over the top of my helmet.

Thanks for checking in... and at least it confirms my suspicion :P

I'm starting to think there's no way I get clean air on this bike... Maybe I need to switch to a goldwing or something ;)

@Husqy - what shields have you tried? I'm 6'4 and on the verge of getting a barn door of some sort, but keep hearing people say they haven't found anything that helps.

@Maverick302 Some good reading in here (https://www.tracer900.net/topic/6975-screen-for-tall-rider/#comments) where I've posted before, but to answer your question,  I have the Yamaha Touring Screen (24"?) and the Ermax 20" screen... both are terrible for wind buffeting at highway speed.

Popular option is the Madstad 26" - https://madstad.com/products/yamaha-tracer-900-2019?variant=19992266670193

I did have someone mention to me that the Parabellum is the tallest/biggest you can find (http://parabellum.com/FJ-09-Replacement-Touring-Windshield-P124.aspx) also at 26", but I haven't gambled on it as I'm up in Canada. The only people I've chatted with personally who used the above 2 are all shorter than me, so it doesn't really help :P

  5. I'm 6'3" with a 36" inseam. I have the sw-motech crash bars and they serve as perfect leg-resters on those highway trips. I also have cruise control through my ECU... using that in combination with a pillion bag means I can set the CC, put my legs up and actually lean back a bit onto my bag. Very comfy.

The one issue is I have not found a windshield that gives me clean air; it all ends in buffeting. I got fed up, made my own little fly shield and pretty much ride the bike naked. Its a bit tiring, but I came from a naked bike so I'm kind of used to it. I can do 2-3 hours on the bike pretty easily without needing to stop.

Thanks! The motor is really addicting so I'm sure I'll rack the miles up quick on it. Since you have a 2015 also did you do the ECU reflashing some people say in necessary in the 2015?

Previous owner did the mod where they emptied the cat, then had it flashed by this guy (https://www.tracer900.net/forum/37-ecu-flashing-by-2wheeldynoworks/).

I recently swapped the exhaust from the original (modified) to an aftermarket full delkevic system. I figured that the air flow would be similar considering the fact that he did the mod, and my suspicions seem confirmed as the bike is still running very smoothly.

I would recommend doing the ECU flash. Previous owner said it really helped to smooth out the throttle mapping.

  7. Pretty normal sounding offer from a dealer... Even with cars they generally give you about 60-70% (tops) of what its worth privately. They have rent and employees to pay, so they need to make a buck of course.

The upside is 'hassle-free', but also that the $4600 lowers the purchase price of your AT, so you'd save about $600 in taxes (13% Ontario) on the trade in, meaning the real offer is actually about $5200.

Still, if you sell privately, you should easily get $7-8k for what you listed, but as someone who bought a used FJ09, let me tell you, I saw those bikes posted for a LONG time before selling. Most people don't even know this bike exists so its not on their radar.

  8. I haven't ridden since the start of December when it was above 0C and the roads weren't wet or salty. I can take the cold, but I don't want the salt + wet on my bike, rusting it away! With that said, anything less than 7c means the tires are so cold you can't lean the bike over anyways, so where's the fun in that...

Its going to be below zero for at least another month (mid 20s, my free friends), so I just have to suck it up :(. Sometimes I feel better when I snowboard though!

  9. @stumpy yeah GP Bikes usually has a decent 25% off sale at the show.

I picked up an RPHA 70 ST 2 years ago, which is HJC's version of the GT Air (RPHA 11 doesnt have the drop-down sun visor).

I came from a Shoei RF-1100 and to be honest, the HJC is noticeably louder. Apart from that, build quality is pretty great and its held up after 2 years and about 25k. Sena fit nicely and the visors are about half the cost of Shoei, so I have 3 (tint, clear and reflective).

Happy with it, but I did really enjoy the quietness of the Shoei so in the future I might look at going back to Shoei. Now that the air2 is out, maybe next year I can snag a deal.

Has any one just cut off an inch or two off the original , I'm quite tempted 😉

I'm 6'3" and I pretty much only ride with my sporty screen. Its just the original, shaved down about 2" and wrapped in black vinyl.

I have the Yamaha Touring Screen (24"?) and the ermax 20" screen... both are terrible for wind buffeting at highway speed. I prefer just riding in the clean air, even if it makes me a bit more tired.

  11. Don't know if you wear glasses or not.. but without glasses, my pinlock is the best and only solution to really stopping fog.

I've commuted with a pinlock into 4 degrees C or so and had zero issues. As others mentioned, it will definitely not feel the same as a plain visor, but how can it? Its literally a second layer, so of course it might have a couple blotches or refracted light. Its totally fine to use at night time.

^^^^ I have so many pics in front of the Hockley General Store. Lol

I ride up there a lot for a coffee and a Cowboy cookie.

Glad to see a bunch of you made it and were able to get in some riding in the area.

Was the Versys part of the group, or just happened to be parked there?

Looks like you got a little sprinkling?

    Rob

Haha it is a favourite! Great spot for a bite. We just did forks and hockley (x2) before heading back to our respective corners.

I believe the Versys was Josh's buddy who tagged along.

The day was absolutely gorgeous, but yes, approaching orangeville we got a dusting. Hockley was wet the first time through but after lunch it had dried up!

i feel the same way @Husqy, here i am on the dragon from may.  whereabouts did you stay?  we were in Walland TN and we had to go through the dragon to get anywhere....what a shame.

    2542923.jpg

Sounds like such a drag ;)!

We stayed at an airbnb in Robbinsville..  our street connected directly to the cherohala skyway and 15 mins to the dragon!

I will definitely be back, but 2 days trailering to get there was a drag. I did a Pennsylvania trip last year (4 hour ride) and those roads are underrated!

Ask 25 different riders which is the best road, you will most likely get 25 different answers.

The more choices that are thrown out, the more confusing it gets. Usually to the point of people dropping out due to lack of organization, and they can no longer follow the latest offered time/date/place.

So, not to hijack or anything, but why don't we agree to have the first meet up Saturday July 27 (as per orig post) starting in Orangeville at 10:00 at Trafalger and 124 per Rob's idea.

Second date of August 24 stands.

I know we all have lives and holidays and it looks like the summer is FINALLY here, so if we can make it, great. If not, then wait until the 24 in august or a sat in sept or oct.

    Just my $0.02

Great points Hammer... going to agree with you here.

Let's go with Trafalgar and 124, in Erin. Saturday, July 27 at 10:00am. Plan is to then ride through Forks, Mclaren then up to Hockley. After Hockley, we can swing by Mono Hills if anyone is keen.

We will set up a second for August 24

  15. July 15/16 and 22/23 are monday/tuesday. Assuming you mean the weekend before that?

Selfishly, I'm unavailable those weekends.. but also wanted to provide plenty of heads up.

Mono Mills is pretty much the same as Orangeville. Just figured Orangeville would be easier as its a good launching point for the nice roads (Forks and Hockley) and it has Highway 10 running to it, so easier to get to generally.

  16. How about we aim for July 27th (Sat) and use August 24th as our backup in case the weather doesn't cooperate?

@gv550I hear you! Fair enough. We can find a spot that's more suitable for going for a ride after we hang out.

I'm thinking Orangeville (Forks, Hockley, Mono etc)... or perhaps Milton I know a few sideroads + escarpment (down towards Hamilton if we want).

Speak now or forever hold your peace! Orangeville, Milton or another suggestion.

  17. Hey gang,

Just thought it would be fun if we could try to arrange a meetup in the GTA to chat about FJ09/Tracer900 and maybe take a couple pics!

I'm thinking 2-ish months from now so everyone has lots of time to block their calendar.

    Proposed days

    • July 27 (sat) or 28 (sun)
    • August 10 (sat) or 11 (sun)
    • August 24 (Sat) or 25 (sun)

Also looking to crowdsource location ideas, but I'm thinking something along the 401, maybe near the airport?

No shame; I'm tagging those of you who I know live nearby based on the member map! @piotrek @hammer @josh

    @darkstar77 @fURYOS @gv550 @tinkerfreak @Torbeach @rsorensen @daboys19 @stumpy @getpetey @baytower

Edit (June 20): For anyone not looking at the most updated post, here is the current plan:

Trafalgar and 124, in Erin. Saturday, July 27 at 10:00am. Plan is to then ride through Forks, Mclaren then up to Hockley. After Hockley, we can swing by Mono Hills if anyone is keen.
