  1. Installed heated grips on my 2015 FJ-09. Santa brought me a set and it's a cold, wet weekend so it's the perfect time to install them. In the menu area do I set them to; Low = 3, Med = 5, High = 7? is this correct?
  2. OK, Santa brought me Heated Grips for Christmas, jolly old soul he is! Installed them today and I think I remember the settings in the menu to be; Low = 3, Med = 5, High = 7. Is this correct? Got my answer over 'ere; FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?
  3. wordsmith, this is the same technique that is used to apply window tint on cars and commercial buildings. I use this same technique to put vinyl stickers on my truck windows.
  4. Tktplz is short for Ticket Please. When I first rode the Yamaha VMax I was like a little kid at the carnival saying ticket please, ticket please because I wanted to ride the ride again, and again and again......
  5. Wasn't trying to point at anything Wordsmith. Just noticed in the picture it looked too long, didn't know if it was an optical illusion of the picture or not. Glad you figured out the passenger peg clevis pins work. I have taken those off and put on R & G blanking plates for weight savings. I won't have to buy a brake peg Clevis. As I put on luggage I try to take away any weight I can. That's why I switched to this bike from my ZX11 Ninja, 462 VS. 620 Lbs. And yes I've gone from 327 Lbs to 222 lbs myself......to save weight. I do kind of miss the feeling of the hand of God coming in behind the ole ZX and push me forward as I twist the grip. Yes the FJ has more than enough power to weight ratio but nothing feels like 150 HP on the loud twist grip, LOL!
  6. Wordsmith, is that clevis pin that much too long? It looks like it's 50% too long in the picture. If so I'd see if the OEM pin from the other side fits it correctly and get another from Yamaha.
  7. I know, I know fz1rider. I live in NW Louisiana and it's old 2 lane, cracked up asphalt with 6 layers of chip seal over it with grass growing up in the cracks. With many of the roads by my house having no markings. No center line or white lines on the side. Just an old road that's just wide enough for it to be called 2 lanes, well sort of. We pay right at the same amount of gas taxes as Texas but somehow our tax money doesn't make it to the roads. Back to your situation.....I feel your pain brother! Still wondering where the hell fz1rider had this come out of in a fenda-extenda thread???? Guess it just had to come out and this is where it landed, LOL!
  8. This next helmet in the spring will be a Modular Bell Helmet with the transitions visor. They have the inside screen but have the option of buying a transition visor for them. The visor gets darker in the sun and if it's still too much sunlight you can use the sun visor also. Don't have to have a dark visor and a clear with you for day to night riding. Bell has 2 versions/price ranges of their Modular Helmets. For non-modular helmets, they have 1 with the transitions visor included for 249.00. Not sure on the fit or noise yet. Going to go by the local Bell Hemet dealer....Harley shop, and see how they fit. I'm a Modular HJC wearer at this time.
  9. The way I installed it the gate opens up and you have to hold the helmet up to keep it from slipping off while you latch the lock. Of course, it never occurred to me that I may have installed it in the wrong direction - I always thought "why did they make the lock this way?". Don't feel bad. I had my DOH! moment a couple of weeks ago when I thought Chromebatteries sent me the right battery number but somehow the posts were reversed. Didn't realize that the battery needed to be turned 180 degrees and lay on its side. Yeah, that was me.......DOH!
  10. This link just made me realize I installed my lock 180 degrees wrong, lol!You don't say......now that's funny! Just here to help........
  11. This one looks like it mounts like the Yamaha one does, behind the passenger pegs, comes from here and a few bucks less. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Helmet-Lock-For-Yamaha-XSR900-2015-2016-FZ-09-FJ-09-MT-09-2013-2017/172783364406?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D52885%26meid%3D72646e3e7a97416dbcdc2f8e5e3294cd%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D121903708708%26itm%3D172783364406&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  12. Over the years, about 60 of them now, riding since 6 1/2 years old, 1st minibike, 2.5 HP motor. I've noticed different motors have different noises. When i get a new motor I listen and learn the noises it makes. Just natural at this point, guess it has been for years. Yes, the triple has more vibration as it slings 2 pistons up then only a single. Not near the vibration as my CR500 Honda 2-smoke single but hey, different motor by far. Not near the smoothness my Honda CB400 four I had back when I was 17 riding it from Louisiana to California 2 times. I just ride the bike and when I hear different noises that I haven't heard it make before is when I take notice. You have Ducatis that have dry clutches. I have friends with VMaxes that have them bored out to 1500s with flat slide carbs chattering away. I've noticed a few on the forum that chat about the different noises or vibrations the motor makes. I've ridden the bike about 3,000 miles so far and have changed from Yama-lube to Castor oil. I didn't notice a difference. I'll probably continue to use Castor Oil motorcycle oil since it's about 8.99 a quart at Advance. Ride the bike, enjoy it and when the motor says something strange listen. So far I'm really enjoying this motor!
  13. Was supposed to be there Sept 6th thru the 9th. This year, Florance was there instead. After going last year and fighting Irma, and missing 2 days of riding, we decided to go north an hour and a half from my house to Arkansas and ride 5 days, 1500 miles. Will be in NC again next fall, it's a yearly pilgrimage. Really wanted to go with the FJ being new to me. Was fun in Arkansas with the FJ being all new to me.
  14. Certain words just pop out at me when reading a post... HaHa, just having withdrawls here, its been a week since I have been out rippin' up some twisties. Yeah, there's a bunch of us ole VMOA, VMax Owner Assoc Members who have known each other since the mid 90's. Some still ride Gen 1 VMaxes, others ride the newer Gen 2 VMaxes, reflashed right at 200 RWHP. After 3 VMaxes I was riding a 2000 ZRX1100 and also had a 1996 ZX11 Ninja. I'm more into the 2nd gear twisties where some of them are much more into the high-speed sweepers. We meet up in May in Eureka Springs then in September at Deals Gap. Besides that, I'm riding the piney woods of east Texas and NW Louisiana. And since I'm only 1 to 1/2 hours below Arkansas I can be by Push Mountain, Mountain View and Mountain Home, Clinton, Hector, that whole area in 1 day. Ride right up Scenic Hwy 7 from Arkadelphia. So a 3 day or 4 day weekend in Arkansas is easy. Pix of the ole steeds!
  15. I have not ordered mine yet, I will probably wait a few months. I just ordered a Scorpion slip-on and next month will sent my suspension in for its 2-year servicing, all other frivolous expenses will wait until after the holidays. I checked on the Colorrite website and the '14 FJR, '15 FJ09 and '17 FZ09 are all listed under the same paint code: 0918 Deep Red Metallic K. I haven't ordered mine yet either. Think I'm doing the Mcruise and heated grip option first, then the front forks, and probably the Rear Shock. That will take me to March and in March we're usually riding the hill country. I'll have to see how farkles go after spring gets here. Love those farkles but like riding trips even more.
  16. Like the look. Something to set my 2015 apart from all the other 2015 Candy Red FJ-09's. Well until I met up with 1 of Y'all, LOL! And at 116 bucks, a cheap Farkle! Let me add this to the list, mcruise, heated grips, front forks by Matt, Penski rear shock, radar detector, Candy Red Front Fender. Not in order of implementation.
  17. Yeah everything works fine. Did you drive the bike 130 miles or so on a full tank? and did it change for you? Mine changed at 113 miles this last time.
  18. You can add a candy red fender now. Get it from a 2017 FZ-09. Bike bandit has them for $116. I have come close to getting one myself. Now that looks interesting. Let's find out if it fits, looks like it would. And if it's the same "Candy Red".
  19. I do like the more red look. Mine's the 2015 Candy Apple Red model. I would have preferred the Yamaha Blue but for $7.000 and only 2348 miles on it, I couldn't refuse it. What it looked like when I bought it; What it looks like now; I do like the extra red....... 8-)
  20. I've been running regular since I bought the bike used in June of this year. I ran regular in my ZX11 Ninja, ZRX1100 and 94, 95 and 1999 VMax. Never had a problem. We did a test years ago with the VMOA on a Gen 1 VMax running regular then premium on the same dyno within an hour of each pull and found the regular produced just as much HP as the premium. The Gen 1 VMaxes have a bolt in the bottom of the gas tank under the seat so it's easy to change out a tank of gas. Only thing I had to run primo in was my Honda Turbo jet skis. They would activate the knock sensor and knock the RPM's down till you used Premium. I have heard, yes "Heard" that you get less mileage out of ethanol gases than non but I know, yes "Know" that there are the same BTU's in regular and premium gas. Both put out the same power just premium is harder to ignite, hence better for high compression engines. We're paying 2.44 a gallon or so here for 10% ethanol, not sure what the non-ethanol is, haven't had a need to buy it. I know it's out there just haven't had the need. Yes phpaul, this engine is a lot of fun. With the power to weight ratio and flickability of this bike you can't help but have fun on it.
  21. That's great, thanks for the link. I was leaving the next day to NC and it was a Saturday. Limited ways to get it right then. Found one 1 1/2 hours away and was happy to find it. That Saturday turned out to be a comedy of errors. Oil leaking from oil filter after oil change, seat flew off, joe's battery died, and on and on. When I hurt my leg on the tailgate of the truck, about the 7th thing that happened that day. We decided not to go to NC and fight Florance this year after fighting Irma last year and losing 2 days of the week riding. We rode to Arkansas, 1 hour to the Arkansas line for me, we rode 5 days there, Push Mountain, Little Dragon, Mt Nebo, Petit Jean Park, Eureka Springs, Mountain Home, Mountain View, Clinton, etc. 1500 miles, good times. Yes, that's Joe's VMax. He's on radials instead of Bias Plys that came on it. Joe says it holds the road like walking thru spilled soda. The only downer was the fresh Chip-Seal. Chip seal is fresh tar then a layer of fresh chipped grey rock. I understand this is the last of the summer when the road is still hot enough to put down tar and rock and it mashes together but bad timing on our part. Still a lot of fun and no tar on the bike. Oh Yeah, no hurricane either! I now carry the tire kit in the saddle bag.
  22. This was done on my bike before I bought it. Just 1 thing to watch out for tho. Had the bike in the bed of the truck, tied down for a 12-hour ride from Louisiana to Deals Gap. He put a tire repair kit that came in a heavy nylon bag into that area. He also had only 2,348 miles on the bike after 3 years of ownership so not much of a chance of it blowing off. The pillion seat flew off. I went back over the route, 30 miles, and couldn't find it. Seems the bag pushed on the release cable that runs right on top of the rear of the bag. Probably won't happen if riding the bike since you are almost pushing down on the seat but be careful if it is trailered. The seat is 107 dollars and change plus tax at the local Yamaha Dealer. Be careful, just sayin'
  23. 105 or so, sometimes as much as 115 then a rapid decline. Just like an 80's Chevy Truck. Stays full to 3/4 for what seems like 1/2 a tank but it still says 3/4. From 3/4 on seems like you use an 1/8 of a tank just to pass a car or accelerate hard up to 70 or so. At 200 miles to 205 I put in 4.3 gallons. So now I try to fill up by 200 or so. Not gonna push it 235 at all.
  24. I have a 40-liter SHAD on a rack from Aliexpress.com.
