  1. Chicken strips.....we don't need no stinkin' chicken strips............
  2. Betoney, I hear you and I love my 200 mile range on the FJ. That being said.......I'm an ole VMax guy and a longtime member of the VMOA. I rode Gen 1 VMaxes, owned 3 of them and wasn't a big Gen 2 fan. On gen 1 VMaxes you got 127 miles out of a tank. And a Member John Furber made rear ends with Venture gearing. They got 165 miles out of a tank and only dropped the RPMs by 500. And on hard acceleration still yealded a long black strip all thru 2nd gear. But now I ride with quite a few Gen2 Vmxes at 3 meets a year I make. With some of their reflashes, they get 90 miles on a tank, reserve and all. Totally out at 90. But hey we've known each other for about 25 years and really enjoy the visit every year, makes it easy to make lots of gas stops. I'm in that 60-year young group now. I was riding a 1996 ZX11 Ninja before I bought the FJ09. It has a 6.5 gallon tank and got 43 miles to a gallon. I used to get gas every other time we stopped, LOL! I'm more than happy myself with 108 RWHP but those Gen2 VMaxes come out of a corner and nail it with 196 RWHP. They just zip past 150 MPH like the FJ09 zips past 90. Now that I think about it I'm pretty happy they need gas every 75 miles or so. As I get more seasoned, as in a seasoned citizen, holding focus for more than 75 miles of twisties is getting harder. 😵 I almost went with the FZ10 as we call it here when it 1st came out. Then I checked the insurance. $376.00 every 6 months...The FJ09 costs me $78.12 every 6 months. I don't have to have 143 RWHP and 463 lbs. anymore but 5 years ago I would have. If they could put an FJ in front of it my insurance guy says FJ means touring, FZ means naked bike/hooligan. I can tell I'm almost past the point of entertaining the thought of owning a sport-touring 143 RWHP lightweight bike. A little less hooligan these days.......Still, love the light weight power to weight ratio of this FJ. It puts the sport back in sport touring.....don't tell my insurance agent, LOL!
  3. Yup but as you can see it's not the same bike as is in the youtube vid. In the vid it's a 4 cyl.
  4. Hey, I'm 60 and that's the temp I start to think about riding at. 60 degrees or higher these days. Any colder the bikes in the shed that is kept at 55 degrees during the winter don't move. Your talking 11 degrees????? 50 degrees down south is a non-starter, HA!
  5. I'm in for a t-shirt or 2. A pic that shows the FJ09 as the naked bike it is with a shorty screen.
  6. I know, I've been a Raiders Fan for about 55 years. Don't get me started on the Patriots......
  7. Last weekend I put on the OEM Heated Grips ole St. Nick brought me. Now it's time to fix the throttle governor Yamaha put on my 2008 ZUMA 50cc scooter. You know how it is.......Scooters are like fat chicks. They are both fun to ride till your friends catch you on 'em, LOL! The update will get my top end to 43 instead of 37. I'm in N W Louisiana and we're right in the middle of the worst 6 weeks of winter here. The month of January and the first 2 weeks of February. The other end of the spectrum is the last half of July and the whole month of August is too hot to ride. It's like riding into an oven. Bought the ZUMA new in 2010 when I bought my Travel Lite 690FD Truck Camper for my 1999 Tacoma extra cab Prerunner. To buzz around campgrounds and Forrest roads in the park area. Should be fun this next weekend. The OEM grips went on without a hitch. I put 2 wraps of electric tape on the left bar and set the temps in the menu area to low = 3, Med = 6 and High = 8. Too about 2 hours to install and installed the grip in the new throttle apparatus on the bench and put it on the bike and then hooked up the throttle cables as in this vid. Good Vid! Have a fun winter folks and hopefully you have some projects to keep you busy.
  8. Waterproof Tour Master Solution 2.0 Boots, comfy enough to walk around in if you ride with a group and they are site seeing also if you yourself like to do a little hiking down to waterfalls, etc. Plus the price is nice on them and they wear pretty well. I also get them in the wide version. I wear an 11.5 EE in New Balance. I wear a 46 Wide in these. http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/street_boots/waterproof_sport_street_touring_boots/tour_master/solution_2_0_waterproof_road_boots.html
  9. OK betoney, Went out this morning and set the grip warmers to 3, 5 and 7 from the stock settings of 1, 5 and 10. It's still 29 outside, not in the shed where the motorcycles are, 55 in there. Once it gets to 48 today I'll warm up the bike with the grip heaters on and see what I get. It's so easy to move around in the menu area, even for the 60-year-old inside me. Sometimes he comes out....."Git off my lawn," LOL! But most of the time my 25 to 35-year-old self is in charge. But yeah it is easy and intuitive. Went out, cranked up the bike. Ran the heated grips. Found 3 to be great for low, moved it to 6 for Med. Not enough difference between 3 and 5 so 3 then 6 then 8 for high. Still only a high of 47 today, just don't have the will/urge to ride when it's much under 60 degress.
  10. 3 5 and 7 was what I thought. I did a search and got 1 guy at 2 3 and 4. I'll set it to 3 5 and 7 and go from there. Seems mid-level setting for each 1. Haven't tried them yet. it's mid 30's and 15 MPH with 25 MPH gusts of wind. Not riding, e en with heated grips, no sir! But I did get 2 layers of electric tape over the handlebars on the clutch side in case there was any difference in heat others had claimed. Thanks for the replies folks!!!
  11. Installed heated grips on my 2015 FJ-09. Santa brought me a set and it's a cold, wet weekend so it's the perfect time to install them. In the menu area do I set them to; Low = 3, Med = 5, High = 7? is this correct?
  12. OK, Santa brought me Heated Grips for Christmas, jolly old soul he is! Installed them today and I think I remember the settings in the menu to be; Low = 3, Med = 5, High = 7. Is this correct? Got my answer over 'ere; FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?
  13. wordsmith, this is the same technique that is used to apply window tint on cars and commercial buildings. I use this same technique to put vinyl stickers on my truck windows.
  14. Tktplz is short for Ticket Please. When I first rode the Yamaha VMax I was like a little kid at the carnival saying ticket please, ticket please because I wanted to ride the ride again, and again and again......
  15. Wasn't trying to point at anything Wordsmith. Just noticed in the picture it looked too long, didn't know if it was an optical illusion of the picture or not. Glad you figured out the passenger peg clevis pins work. I have taken those off and put on R & G blanking plates for weight savings. I won't have to buy a brake peg Clevis. As I put on luggage I try to take away any weight I can. That's why I switched to this bike from my ZX11 Ninja, 462 VS. 620 Lbs. And yes I've gone from 327 Lbs to 222 lbs myself......to save weight. I do kind of miss the feeling of the hand of God coming in behind the ole ZX and push me forward as I twist the grip. Yes the FJ has more than enough power to weight ratio but nothing feels like 150 HP on the loud twist grip, LOL!
  16. Wordsmith, is that clevis pin that much too long? It looks like it's 50% too long in the picture. If so I'd see if the OEM pin from the other side fits it correctly and get another from Yamaha.
  17. I know, I know fz1rider. I live in NW Louisiana and it's old 2 lane, cracked up asphalt with 6 layers of chip seal over it with grass growing up in the cracks. With many of the roads by my house having no markings. No center line or white lines on the side. Just an old road that's just wide enough for it to be called 2 lanes, well sort of. We pay right at the same amount of gas taxes as Texas but somehow our tax money doesn't make it to the roads. Back to your situation.....I feel your pain brother! Still wondering where the hell fz1rider had this come out of in a fenda-extenda thread???? Guess it just had to come out and this is where it landed, LOL!
  18. This next helmet in the spring will be a Modular Bell Helmet with the transitions visor. They have the inside screen but have the option of buying a transition visor for them. The visor gets darker in the sun and if it's still too much sunlight you can use the sun visor also. Don't have to have a dark visor and a clear with you for day to night riding. Bell has 2 versions/price ranges of their Modular Helmets. For non-modular helmets, they have 1 with the transitions visor included for 249.00. Not sure on the fit or noise yet. Going to go by the local Bell Hemet dealer....Harley shop, and see how they fit. I'm a Modular HJC wearer at this time.
  19. The way I installed it the gate opens up and you have to hold the helmet up to keep it from slipping off while you latch the lock. Of course, it never occurred to me that I may have installed it in the wrong direction - I always thought "why did they make the lock this way?". Don't feel bad. I had my DOH! moment a couple of weeks ago when I thought Chromebatteries sent me the right battery number but somehow the posts were reversed. Didn't realize that the battery needed to be turned 180 degrees and lay on its side. Yeah, that was me.......DOH!
  20. This link just made me realize I installed my lock 180 degrees wrong, lol!You don't say......now that's funny! Just here to help........
  21. This one looks like it mounts like the Yamaha one does, behind the passenger pegs, comes from here and a few bucks less. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Helmet-Lock-For-Yamaha-XSR900-2015-2016-FZ-09-FJ-09-MT-09-2013-2017/172783364406?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D52885%26meid%3D72646e3e7a97416dbcdc2f8e5e3294cd%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D121903708708%26itm%3D172783364406&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  22. Over the years, about 60 of them now, riding since 6 1/2 years old, 1st minibike, 2.5 HP motor. I've noticed different motors have different noises. When i get a new motor I listen and learn the noises it makes. Just natural at this point, guess it has been for years. Yes, the triple has more vibration as it slings 2 pistons up then only a single. Not near the vibration as my CR500 Honda 2-smoke single but hey, different motor by far. Not near the smoothness my Honda CB400 four I had back when I was 17 riding it from Louisiana to California 2 times. I just ride the bike and when I hear different noises that I haven't heard it make before is when I take notice. You have Ducatis that have dry clutches. I have friends with VMaxes that have them bored out to 1500s with flat slide carbs chattering away. I've noticed a few on the forum that chat about the different noises or vibrations the motor makes. I've ridden the bike about 3,000 miles so far and have changed from Yama-lube to Castor oil. I didn't notice a difference. I'll probably continue to use Castor Oil motorcycle oil since it's about 8.99 a quart at Advance. Ride the bike, enjoy it and when the motor says something strange listen. So far I'm really enjoying this motor!
  23. Was supposed to be there Sept 6th thru the 9th. This year, Florance was there instead. After going last year and fighting Irma, and missing 2 days of riding, we decided to go north an hour and a half from my house to Arkansas and ride 5 days, 1500 miles. Will be in NC again next fall, it's a yearly pilgrimage. Really wanted to go with the FJ being new to me. Was fun in Arkansas with the FJ being all new to me.
  24. 2019 calls for a week-long road trip through Northern California, Plumas NF/Tahoe/Yosemite area and a 9-day trip through Utah and Colorado as a start. I'll be with this guy betoney in 2019. I think I like this guys calendar......
  25. Certain words just pop out at me when reading a post... HaHa, just having withdrawls here, its been a week since I have been out rippin' up some twisties. Yeah, there's a bunch of us ole VMOA, VMax Owner Assoc Members who have known each other since the mid 90's. Some still ride Gen 1 VMaxes, others ride the newer Gen 2 VMaxes, reflashed right at 200 RWHP. After 3 VMaxes I was riding a 2000 ZRX1100 and also had a 1996 ZX11 Ninja. I'm more into the 2nd gear twisties where some of them are much more into the high-speed sweepers. We meet up in May in Eureka Springs then in September at Deals Gap. Besides that, I'm riding the piney woods of east Texas and NW Louisiana. And since I'm only 1 to 1/2 hours below Arkansas I can be by Push Mountain, Mountain View and Mountain Home, Clinton, Hector, that whole area in 1 day. Ride right up Scenic Hwy 7 from Arkadelphia. So a 3 day or 4 day weekend in Arkansas is easy. Pix of the ole steeds!
