  1. Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place. Lots of good folks here willing to share helpful information and experiences. As mentioned before you will likely want an ECU reflash for your bike if you install aftermarket exhaust. Mine is stock but I found the fueling in "A" mode to be a bit abrupt during on / off throttle transitions and had mine reflashed. Money well spent.
  2. No upgrades for 2020. I would make the dealer an offer or shop around more. I paid $11,500 before taxes were added, so around $12,200 out the door.
  3. There is plenty of room for documents under the passenger seat. I picked up a Nelson Rigg tailbag for single day trips and mount the factory hard bags when I am going to be gone longer than one day. The tailbag sits on the passenger seat.
  4. I think I would try other dealers, even if you have to go a few miles. I picked up a GT last year for $11,500 before taxes.
  5. Glad they were able to quickly resolve your issue and took care of you in a professional manner. After a couple of conversations with my local dealers service department there is no way I would let them work on my bike. The day I picked up my new Tracer there were two inexcusable pre delivery defects.
  6. If it is an old chain that I am disposing of I just cut that sucker off with a Dremel and a cutting wheel. 😁
  7. I have used a magnetic tank bag and it stays put with no problem. If you are careful, when placing the bag on the tank you should not have any issues with it scratching the paint.
  8. Why not try to sand it lightly and then mask it off and spray it with paint? The result can't be worse than the current condition and you might save a buck or two. If it does not work out order a new one.
  9. I just can't get excited about an electric motorcycle. I suppose it would be very good as a commuter bike. I have always had a love affair with the internal combustion engine.....they way it feels and sounds, as well as the design and engineering that goes into extracting the maximum energy from a mixture of fuel and oxygen. I can ride 200 miles, refuel in just a couple minutes and be on my way again. Where I live Harley Davidson still has a large following of people who know little or nothing about motorcycles but love the whole image that Harley sells. Lemmings.
  10. Welcome Ken. If you are looking for a comfortable, fun and capable bike that can do all things well ( except for off road ) you found it. I picked one up last year and could not be more pleased. Let us know when you get yours. πŸ‘
  11. I have always worn leathers and so far my favorite has been the RS Tachi line of perforated leather jackets. Main reason is because their jackets just seem to fit me very well, and they flow quite a bit of air which is nice on hot summer days.
  12. I personally really like this forum and find the people friendly and the information valuable and accurate. I am a fair weather rider and having this place to visit and discuss helps me get through winter. I retired two years ago at the age of 56 and winter can get pretty stale. I stay far more busy in the summer with maintaining the home and property, riding and maintaining my motorcycles. I can not wait to be riding again!!! As far as excitement......I think that our bike attracts a slightly more mature crowd than some other motorcycles will do, so we get more mature and measured topics, comments and responses. Some may find that boring but I do not. Sure, I am always up for a good laugh and some bawdy jokes, but that is not what I come here for. I used to own a 2015 ZX6R and the forums I visited for that particular bike were full of nonsense. I think the bike attracted a different kind of crowd.
  13. Have any of our members purchased the Yamaha Extended Service plan and did you benefit from doing so? Any issues with filing a claim? I received a letter from Yamaha offering the service and it is a bit expensive. Considering the stellar reliability I have had with Japanese bikes I am reluctant to make a purchase but wanted to hear from those that have used the product.
  14. Hello Paul and welcome. The bike is tall but with a 32 inch inseam you should be fine. The seat has two height setting and I am going to bet you will prefer the lower. It is an excellent bike for solo touring. It is light, agile and has roomy ergonomics. The panniers a bit small but I can pack for traveling easily using a tailbag for a few items such as rain suit and tools etc. As mentioned before the stock screen is pretty bad and creates a lot of buffeting at any height setting. I think everyone gets an aftermarket screen. Some of us find the stock seat uncomfortable for long days in the saddle. I have toured on mine a bit but am looking for a replacement. Everything else about the bike is brilliant, especially the engine. It makes more than enough power with a nice, flat torque curve.....pulls well from just about any rpm! The only niggle is that the on/off fueling is a little abrupt in A mode but in standard or B it is just fine. A reflash of the ECU will fix this as well as other benefits. It's a good touring bike that can also be fun on twisty roads.
  15. Getting an ECU reflash is a good idea with this bike. There is no need to do any other modifications with an ECU reflash unless you just want to. A good reflash will cost anywhere from 250to 300 dollars. Read the details of what each tuner offers in their reflash as they are not all exactly the same.
  16. I have a ninja 1000 and have toured on it a good bit. It is a little cramped compared to the Tracer GT. By comparison, the Ninja 1000 is more comfortable than the VFR 800 which has a sportier riding position.
  17. When you do you are in for a real treat. I have been coming down there several times each year since 2004. Never gets old.
  18. Looks like a great road trip. Glad you have a nice time and made it back safely. Too bad you did not have more time to spend in the TN, NC, GA mountains. That area has hundreds of miles of the best motorcycle roads in the country. Next time be sure to ride the Cherohala Skyway.
  19. You are not far from hundreds of miles of some of the very best mountain roads in the nation!! The area where TN, NC and GA share borders has great riding in every direction. How long have you lived in Knoxville??
  20. Welcome to the forum. Lots of good information to be had here as well as a great group of people willing to help. Beautiful country where you live. πŸ‘
  21. Since getting into motorcycles, everything else pales by comparison. I still enjoy all of the other things I usually do but can not help but think that there is somewhere else I would rather be......on the bike. My signature line spells it out nicely.
  22. I agree with the whole two wheeled therapy idea. Riding the bike really clears the mind of everything else as you are focused on your safety and simultaneously feeling the joy of tossing the bike back and forth on your favorite stretch of winding road. I was fortunate enough to be able to retire at age 56 and if it would not end up putting me in divorce court, beyond my few trips to the fitness center each week all my waking hours would be spent in some way riding, washing or working on my motorcycles...…..mostly riding. We are remodeling the house over the winter and I cringe at the cost when I think of the other bikes I could have along side my Tracer. Love taking trips with the wife but after a few days I am already thinking about where I will ride when I get home.
  23. Well, have they? When you are not riding are you thinking about riding? Do you purposely avoid spending money on other things just to have more disposable cash for parts, upgrades and road trips? When you close your eyes at night before falling asleep, do you have thoughts about sunny warm days and fantastic twisty roads. Are most if not all of your best friends motorcyclists who share your obsession? Would you rather be on your bike than taking a vacation to the beach or some other place you have never seen? Is riding your motorcycle the one thing you would rather do than anything else? It's pretty bad.
  24. Barber is incredible. Not only for the fantastic track, but the museum as well. Mecca for motorcyclists!!! Turn two...………..
  25. Both of those cruisers are sharp bikes for sure. The Tracer is going to be a whole new world for you. If you have not yet ridden one I can only imagine the big grin you will have on your first ride!!
