  1. Wordsmith...….sad that you are parting ways with the Tracer and motorcycling. Glad you lived long enough to walk away with your body intact and hopefully some great memories. I have enjoyed your posts. Best of luck to you.

  3. Open the fuel tank lid and see if you hear a sound like pressure being released. Then if it starts easy after that, the breather hose is likely kinked, pinched or blocked.

  6. Yes, like you I could not accept the poor fit. Had a Sargent seat on my VFR and still have my Ninja 1000 with a Sargent seat......both with OEM quality fit. They really missed the mark on this one. In my humble opinion they should have built a dedicated seat for the Tracer instead of modifying their own FJ-09 pan. Shortcuts usually are a detriment to quality.

  8. I have loaded heavier bikes into my small truck where the rear wheel sits on the open tailgate for the duration of the trip with no issues. Just make sure you have the bike very well secured for the trip. I highly recommend investing in a Baxley wheel chock if you plan on doing this on occasion. Great product!!
  9. The fit at the tank still looks the same but they obviously added some material at the front. I am guessing it is still a modified version of their FJ-09 pan. I guess I am a bit picky......want something comfortable that fits properly as well.

  11. Looks like a nice bike for sure. I have always preferred middleweight sport bikes over the 1000 cc class...…..just my personal preference. This one sounds like a winner on paper, but try getting replacement parts for an Aprilia of needed. 😯 My last road trip this year was with a guy who had a Caponord with only 1500 miles. On day two it developed a horrible miss above 4000 rpm or any time the throttle was opened much more than half way. Riding behind him I could see the exhaust glowing orange as and when we stopped you could feel the heat off the cannister standing anywhere near the bike. The next morning we noticed the pannier on the other side of the bike would not stay securely attached. The forward attachment point would not stay secured. Bike is still parked and that was two months ago. Love the sexiness and performance of Italian bikes but for me Japanese reliability is more important than power and performance that can not be fully used on public roads.
  12. My experience is that the GT is very stable. No vibration or "shimmy" felt in any way in all sorts of riding conditions and speeds up to 120, which is as fast as I have been. I am 175 pounds before putting on my riding gear and set the sag at 35 millimeters on both ends.
  13. Congrats on the new bike. Glad to hear you made it home safe from your maiden voyage. How did your posterior get along with the stock seat? I can live with the stock seat but it still leaves me wanting something more comfortable.
  14. I am in central Kentucky, near Lexington. However I ride down that way a few times each year to enjoy the fantastic roads in NC and GA. If we planned ahead over the winter we could probably have a pretty good turn out for a spring meet somewhere in the mountains.
  15. I always regarded the red switch as an emergency kill switch and left it in the on position on all my bikes, never turned it off and always use the key. Not sure if this is the "correct" procedure but never gave it much thought before.

  17. Include me in with those awaiting your ride review of the Bagster seat. After the fiasco with the Sargent seat I am very interested!! I looks great on the bike.
  18. Aminotchelat…….I have the Bell Race Star. When it was new it was a bit difficult to put on as the lining was snug and I had to be careful how I pulled it on and off or it would hurt my ears. After a short while it was "broken in" and this problem went away. Very comfortable with high quality interior materials. It ventilates very well. Removing and installing the shield is very simple and the mechanism is well designed. One of my favorite things about the helmet is how stable it is in the wind......good aerodynamic design. My only gripe is that the vents on the top of the helmet have small tabs and are a bit difficult to find with your riding gloves on. But I rarely need to do this so it is no big deal. It is a bit noisy with the vents all open but that is not unusual with a helmet that ventilates well. I wear earplug when I ride so this is really not an issue. I had a Bell RS1 which is also a very nice helmet. Very quiet but does not ventilate quite as well as the Race Star. I used to wear Arai but they have become too expensive.

  20. This is somewhat common among fuel injected bikes. Fuel is basically turned off when you close the throttle on deceleration. When you ease it back open the fuel comes back on and causes the abrupt on / off response. I read somewhere that manufacturers do this to decrease emissions for the EPA compliance cycle. This makes sense, since there can be no emissions when there is no fuel, thus reducing overall emissions for a particular test cycle. A good ECU reflash ( such as one from Ivan's Performance Products) will eliminate the "fuel cut" as well as performing many other things such as fuel and ignition timing changes which improve throttle response. My 2013 Ninja 1000 had the same problem as my Tracer GT. Had both ECU's reflashed by Ivan......both are now silky smooth.
  21. Wow......that is just amazing!! Other than routine valve inspections, have you ever had to open up the engine or have all these miles been basically trouble free??
  22. I was one of the first to receive the seats, and called Sargent the very next day about the horrible fit condition, then sent them several photos. Based on my past experience with their products, I was shocked at just how bad this one turned out to be, but don't think it is reason enough to bad mouth the company. My conversations on the phone with them have all been cordial, and they seemed genuinely concerned when I told them of the problems with the seat. Hopefully they can rectify this but in my humble opinion they blew it when they tried to fabricate the Tracer seat from their own FJ-09 seat pan. It even appears they glued on a couple of black brackets to the rear of the riders seat.....kind of a cobbled up design rather than a properly molded to fit seat pan. I think they should scrap the whole damn thing and start over. Build a dedicated seat for the Tracer so that it will fit properly. I would be willing to wait if I knew the end result would match the quality of their previous products I have owned.
  23. I had the 50 amp fuse blow when reinstalling the battery. Picked one up at the auto parts store. No problem. You might want to check a few other fuses. Mine also blew the ETV ( electronic throttle valve ) fuse at the same time. It is under the seat and the owners manual shows the location. It is not out of the ordinary to blow this one as well. If you replace the main 50 amp and start the bike with the ETV fuse blown, it increases the likelihood that you will get a check engine light and a code or two, especially if you try to open the throttle. Can also disable the quick shifter and lock you out of the menu if this occurs. Then you have to take it to the dealer and have the codes cleared.
  24. That is a smoking deal on those tires. Ran a couple sets of them on my Ninja 1000 and they performed very well. Good dry grip and decent in the wet as well. I was getting about 3500 miles out of a rear but that was on a bike that had been heavily modified and made way more low and midrange torque than the Tracer, and was ridden in anger 90% of the time.
