  1. Glad that you have found the gearing combo that works for you is great , but to say that Yamaha has geared this bike wrong is far from the truth for a bike that for probably 90 percent of the riders the gearing works. A triple that loves to rev and actually shifts better in the higher rev range.I like the fact that you can pass people with out a down shift and actually think the gear box spacing is the best of any street bike I have owned. Anyway to each his own and good luck with your ride ! MIKE
  2. I bought some Chemical Guys matte finish spray off Amazon and it works fine but found that Maguire's Detail spay works great for cleaning and taking off bugs which seem to like to stick to the matte finish. It also works great on the wind screen and have done multiple cleanings with no scratching and is nice and clear! MIKE
  3. I think the fan comes on about 220-221F. Sounds high but I had mine come on while waiting for a train . Normally would shut down but wanted to make sure the fan was going to turn on And finally did. MIKE
  4. Fist thing I thought of the very first time I opened up the bags !
  5. That's what nice about chain drive ,the ability' to adjust gearing and with the 6 speed and short gearing on the tracer ,plenty of options to suit your ridding style . I have found with stock gearing that at 60mph its in a sweet spot and quiets down the Trans and smooths out.
  6. Also used the Hi Flo filters . Like the welded on Nut like the K&N for easy removal . Had to have that on my ST 1300 Honda that had the filter hidden underneath and needed that nut to take off the filter and by chance the tracer takes the exact same filter. Nice ! MIKE
  7. Congrats and enjoy. Once you get it broke in make sure your hanging on when the tach hits about 6 grand, it really comes to life ! MIKE
  8. The prices are crazy nowadays on dealer maintenance cost. Yamahas maintenance schedule wacky. I think they want carb sync at 600mi, What ,not even broke in then? I told the salesman I would do my own work on my own bike .and would probably not see me again unless there was a warranty issue. The triple seems to be a pretty easy format to work on and maintain ! MIKE
  9. I've never use the kill switch to shut down on any street bike I have ever owned . Never once have had a problem. Like was said if needed in an emergency ,use it otherwise leave it alone and eliminate the problems with priming !
  10. Sorry to here that. I was supper critical on the tab placement and the clamping overnight . Seem to be really stuck on and holding . I'm crossing my fingers.
  11. Not a problem .Just wanted all to know there are differences.
  12. Yeah short of having a full rear fender your going to get crud.Nature of the beast,a sport bike convert to sporting tour bike.
  13. I actually raised mine 1 spline on the trans input shaft., since I installed FJ foot pegs also. Didn't effect the QS. one bit.
  14. This thread was hijacked . The extender I put on was just that, to extend on to the original .The total replacement is the problem one that required the braces or the newer model redo. Just to be clear. ! MIKE
  15. Mine came in today . Had it on in about 15 minutes. Wow what a difference. a very worthwhile investment. Nice!
  16. Got this idea off the ST 1300 web site. Got some key blanks of EBAY , had them ground for locks and then I shortened them for fastening in the nobs. The nob has a brass insert and also super glued in,so it is sturdy. It fits both bags and gas cap .I drilled for key ring so I can carry or can leave in the bag while ridding. NO long ass key sticking out, Works great.
  17. Did you take off fender and rear guard? I had big rubber covered clamps I used on mine and they are on to stay. Left clamped for a day before reinstalling.
  18. As to lubing chain while running as to being safe . Do as you please but SAFE IT IS NOT! IMHO!
  19. Just ordered one on Amazon. Cant stand the stock horns on Bikes. Thought I was going to have to run a dedicated circuit with a relay like I have for a dual set of horns on other bikes. Thank for the info .A lot simpler deal !
  20. Wow cant believe the crappy welds that were on that . Like you said, had to be like that for awhile . Glad you remedied the deal !
  21. I looked at the video again . It looks like you have the cable adjuster screw at the lever out way too far and actually have taken all the free play out . Screw it in some till you actually have some free play in the cable, also try to make sure the slot in the adjuster is toward the top or bottom as to not snag the cable. I think this will work and you will get smooth engagement.
  22. No that's not normal .Either you have the lever bolt too tight causing it too bind unless you let it snap back quickly like you did in the video or that lever isn't just right when it seating into the mount .You should have a.250 to .375 inch free play at lever when right.
