GT ECU Flash

Recommended Posts

I don't think speaking to someone is a reason not to do business with them.  Especially since he is so well known for his excellent work on many different bikes.  I've spoken to him twice now.  He was very courteous and engaging.  He comes across as very confident and straight forward.  Some people may find that offensive, but I don't.

In his defense, he talks to people all day and answers their repetitive questions over and over.  He even offered that other folks had flashes completed when his wasn't ready.  He said if you are in a hurry, you could give one of them a try.  I told him that I knew of several riders who had their bikes flashed by him and I would wait for his finished product.  He told me that if I didn't like his work, he would return the ECU to stock.  Good guy.

I know 3 riders who have had their FZ 900's flashed by him and said the bike's rideability was like night and day.  Ivan is experienced with Yamaha's 900 triple.  That's good enough for me.  Others are pleased with their flashes from other companies.  That's what makes the world go round.

With a flash, can traction control be defaulted to off when the bike starts?

Or switched off while moving?

No...only the drive mode can be set with tuning software...

It's becomes second nature for me to spend 2secs pushing the TCS to turn it off as I put on my helmet/gloves..

traction control can be adjusted with factory ecu whilst moving (throttle just needs to be closed). same goes for driving mode

You can change traction control between level 1 and 2 while moving, as you described.

You can only turn it off when at a stand still.

Care to elaborate?

If you're going to lay down a chunk of change and might ever need support you're buying the tuner not just the product. Have spoken to half a dozen or more over the years. Independent tuners are often "special" but only one convo ended up in seller nonsense rant and no purchase.

As to the products which I've compared on like bikes at rallies and such -- better than some, worse than others. Luckily there are choices. If you want the best try to find baseline and after data collected by the same person and equipment posted by a customer. Much more reliable than the butt dyno review -- and I'm including my butt dyno in that statement :)

I dont fancy sending ECU off to have it mapped is there any software I can read data with and send him the un tuned file and get it tuned and reload it back

For ECU flash I would have to recommend S-TEC Performance in Newbury.  Simon at S-TEC has specialised in tuning our CP3 engines and the results are fantastic.

https://www.facebook.com/STecPerformance/

He offers a mail-in or ride-in service and also has a dyno if you want a bike specific tune.  I recently had my Tracer flashed whilst on a trip to the UK and the results are fantastic.  The bike is now so smooth with power everywhere.  It's the bike Yamaha intended it to be before the envirocrats got their hands on it.  Simon is really knowledgeable and humble with fantastic attention to detail.  He noticed and adjusted little things like my clutch and throttle cable as part of the service.  I can't recommend him enough.

I wouldn't worry about the warranty after an ECU flash.  No big deal at all.  Your bike 's acceleration will be much smoother and eliminating the jerky on /off throttle will make the bike more rideable.  There are great reviews from three different companies on this forum.

@sp0okz  I haven't had time to send my ECU off to Ivan yet.  I already know the review will be tremendous as are all of Ivan's reviews.  There is no reading of the ECU to be done.  You mail the ECU to Ivan in South Carolina and he sends it back to you flashed the same day he receives it.

Ivan is located in Rockland County, NY.

Doesn't matter much, but in case anyone lives local and wants to ride their bike to have the service done.

This guy lives and breathes tuning and is very passionate about certain bikes - i4 Litre bike Kawis and Yamaha triples seem to be 2 of his passions. Luckily - they are mine as well!

Please beg my pardon - it seems that Ivan's new address is indeed in South Carolina. Learn something every day!

(my bad @fjrpittsburgh)

Cheers

I'd go with anyone who uses Woolich. Woolich have just released their race tools for the GT which include quick shift tuning and up shift auto blip.

You mean quick shift up and auto-blipper down shifts... Just wait till you use the Launch Control 😏...
