  1. When MCCruise used to offer the option of using the FJR or Tenere switch gear, you had to buy a specially built wiring harness from them and specify at time of ordering. I chose the Tenere switch gear as it was slightly less expensive but still had the controls that I required. It is a direct replacement for the entire FJ switch gear and all connected wiring. If you don't have the custom wiring harness then the optional switch gear WILL NOT WORK, you cant just buy the switch gear and use it as it is not plug and play. You might try and contact Tony and see if they have any left over to sell you or possibly build you one on a case by case basis. If I remember correctly, it wasn't cheap, $100+ for the custom wiring.
  2. If you call the shop and talk to the service department, they will tell you how much they charge for any service. motorcycle+dealers+in+new+orleans - Google Search
  3. Yes, the Tracer and GT both have the same wheelbase. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, at least in USA there was no 2018 bike, the FJ ended in 2017 and the Tracer and GT were released as 2019 models.
  4. 49 through Downieville is one of my favorites and Donner Pass just South of there near Truckee is very worthwhile as well.
  5. I'm still loving that unique olive green, very nice looking bike. πŸ‘
  6. Funny, my experience with the GT Air was exactly the same. After the sales guy determined my head shape he narrowed the choice down to several helmets, once I tried on the GT Air it was like a revelation, I never knew that a helmet could be so comfortable. I didn't even consider cost when trying them on but like the saying goes, "you cant put a price on comfort". After owning it several years, I just recently replaced the removable pads and it feels like magic all over again.πŸ‘
  7. That whole area from Mt. Shasta to Lake Tahoe is AMAZING. I have been through that area several times but on the main roads, 49/70/89/139/395 etc. Even when I ride a familiar area, I always try to add a new section that Ive never ridden before. When I go back I specifically want to ride between Quincy and Oroville on a loop - Bucks Lake Rd/ Oro Quincy Highway and then La Porte Rd/Quincy Laporte Rd. Any feedback on this specific loop? Lets see if this link works... Google Maps
  8. I want one of those for slow moving Harleys and RV's... 😎
  9. I wish I could help you but I don't own a GT. The ONLY thing I know is the rear of the seat is narrower than the front as it has a tapered shape sub frame. Maybe someone with a GT can chime in and list measurements??
  10. Correct. I modified it with a Dremel tool to fit, the power buttons are in different locations, so I had to cut a hole to fit. It is very stable and I have used the modified cradle for 2 seasons with zero issues. ------------------------------------------------------------- Got the cradle and the ball in the mail. Did you Mcgyver the cradle just so the power cord could plug or did you also do it for the little round power button on the back also? I didn't do any modification for the power cable, only the round power button, my cradle already had an adequate cutout for the usb power.
  11. Question for you, do you have stock suspension or do you have a stiffer spring for your weight? When I first bought the bike I noticed the shock would squat quite a bit under hard acceleration just like you described making the front feel light, it was really bad when I test rode the original FZ09. I can tell you that having a shock with the correct spring rate and adjustable compression damping cured this for me. If you have a soft spring and lousy damping it is going to squat hard when all the weight pitches back and down on acceleration. I'm just wondering if you are trying to chase the fix from the wrong direction.
  12. I really dont understand why the older design supposedly doesn't fit the GT, did anyone ever get a clear answer? Interestingly the original design for the FJ was 1" up and 1" back, the new design for the GT is listed as 1-1/8" up and 1-1/8" back.
  13. Agreed. I definitely like it under the switch cluster rather than on top. Looks like it could easily be reached with your thumb.
  14. Agreed, I always feel better after a good ride, guess that's why it is called "Two Wheel Therapy".
  15. That is saying a lot, I try to get down to California at least once a season and never get tired of the riding you have. Last season I discovered the Lake Berryessa/Calistoga area and will definitely be back for more. This Spring I plan on exploring the roads between Quincy and Oroville for the first time, want to make a loop from Quincy to Bucks Lake to Oroville then to La Porte and back to Quincy. - Is that area worth the trip? any seasonal snow closures?
  16. Thanks for the clarification, makes much more sense now! πŸ‘
  17. I am curious about this myself but have not tried the newer GT, have you ridden the older and newer bikes back to back? I know Yamaha lists the extra 2" as "new and improved" but is it actually noticeable to the average Joe? Its like marketing claiming a 3-5 pound weight reduction on a new bike over the previous year, not something the average Joe will ever notice. As @Maverick302 noted, adding a link or 2 and extending the chain to its rear most position will limit your chain adjustment as the chain wears, and I highly doubt you would notice a difference in handling.
  18. @johnmark101 - I completely agree with 100% of what you said. It is a sickness and obsession that has consumed me since I was 8 y/o on my first dirt bike - 45 year now and its even more consuming than ever. I'm at a point where there is absolutely noting left that I want or need to buy for my bike 😲 so now my bike expenditures are purely routine maintenance, money is now allocated for tires and yearly road trips. And agree with you, my idea of vacation is a road trip through the Rocky Mountains or Northern California vs. laying on the beach of some exotic island. This time of year kills me with bad weather and seasonal road closures in the mountains, dreaming of sunny days...πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
  19. @chesterburnet - Damn, that's no way to break-in the new bike. Sorry to hear that, hope you are alright. Curious though, how did the rear wheel spin? did you have the TC turned off?
  20. Thanks for your assessment on the Parabellum screen. When you say that you "chose wrong" because you can hear wind noise above 45mph, is that because you can hear some wind noise or the wind noise is unbearable? Some wind noise is expected, its a motorcycle. I would think you would have "chose wrong" if you DIDN'T hear the wind, that's the fun of being on a bike - being "in the wind". I wear ear plugs and a quiet helmet, as long as it isn't buffeting and throwing my head around, I'm good to go. If Parabellum says a 24" screen is too short for 5'-10", I don't want to know what they would recommend for me at 6'-1" More importantly, why are you in 6th gear at or below 45mph?... πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
  21. Welcome. The GT is a very nicely appointed bike, most here would agree that it is a great do-it-all motorcycle, it adapts easily to your needs with minor modifications. I use mine for twisty, mountain and canyon day rides as well as multi-day road trips. If you have any questions about setting yours up for your personal wants and needs, don't be afraid to ask, we are more than willing to steer you (and your Visa card) in the right direction.πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
  22. Unfortunately, I don’t remember which direction, CW or CCW, makes the values go up or down, so doing it blind (w/o the screen menu) would definitely be trial and error. One thing to note, when you loosen the screw to rotate the sensor, you only make very minor changes, like 1-2mm.
  23. Agreed, the APS adjustment is definitely the β€œhidden gem” mod for the β€˜15-β€˜16 FJ’s (not sure about β€˜17) AND ITS 100%FREE! My closed settings were 17 from the factory, I set mine to 13 and then again down to 12. Love itπŸ‘πŸ»
  24. Being able to move my legs was crucial for improved comfort. This isn't my video, but I use the frame sliders in the same manner while on longer rides.
  25. I completely understand. Our Pacific Northwest winters usually suck really bad, many times I have wished to simply hibernate between November and March.
