  1. 11 cents a gallon in Louisiana. But this is Louisiana, people fill their cement ponds with oil here, it's everywhere.
  2. My saying before I bought the FJ was, "I wanted an FZ but I needed an FJ." I pretty much trailerd to our events. I'd get there late Thursday or Thursday night in the middle of the night not to use an extra vacation day on Thursday drive time. Then ride Friday and Saturday with everyone, trailer back home on Sunday. NP with tires running out and if they did it was on the trailer to go home anyway. That's the want side. I didn't get riding out of my system doing this. 2 days wasn't enough. So I wanted to be able to ride to and from events, hence the FJ. Now I ride out on Wednesday and meet others in Mena Arkansas for lunch and ride across Arkansas, up and down Mt Magazine a couple of times ending up in Russellville, Ar . Then Thursday riding a route planned to catch the roads we want, Push Mountain, The Little Dragon, ending up in Eureka Springs late afternoon, evening. Meeting up with the rest of the group to ride Friday and Saturday then leaving out Sunday morning, riding down the pig trail to Mena where I split with the guys from Texas I met there and ride back roads back to N W Louisiana. So sport touring tires are needed just because my tire change place, an old Big Dog Harley place, charges me 1/2 and hour shop time per tire, 55 bucks a tire to mount and balance. Can get a bit expensive doing tire changes after every trip, $110.00. So I'm either getting a Gen-Mar changer and super grippy tires and change tires at least 3 times sometimes 4 a year or tires or somewhat grippy and have them change them twice a year. Like I said, I do LOVE the confidence the sportbike tires give you!!!!😁
  3. We're paying $1.49 to $1.69 per gallon in Louisiana. I run regular and it runs fine. No detonation.
  4. I understand ya on the older age thing, into my 60s now. texscottyd is pretty close to the Texas Hill Country. That chip seal on the roads there eats tires for breakfast. I'm glad it's our 1st meet of the spring so i usually have a new set of tennis on the FJ. On riding I keep saying I'm slowing down and will be a mid pack rider but.....there's always a but in there, when the roads get twisty they lure you in and the next thing you know your running somewhere between 3rd and 5th in line sliding the rear tire into corners. The best I've gotten on a rear so far is 3,400 miles. That's actually pretty good because when I was riding the ZRX1100 I was lucky to get 2,600 out of a rear, the original Roadsmart IIs. If I was riding using a sport-bike tire it was between 1,200 and 1,700 miles. But boy are they confidence inspiring. If I get a Gen-Mar tire changer I might go back to sport-bike tires. We will see how they last. Or we may stick with the sport touring tires......if I can get myself to stay mid-pack, LOL! 😈
  5. keithu it looks like you live in twisty road country. The edge of those tires are getting used big time!!! " As my boss would say, Good Job".
  6. I use the cheapy from Ebay or Aliexpress? I love it but I'm used to the sport shield for the 1999 VMax. Windshield WindScreen For Yamaha FJ 09 MT 09 Tracer 2015-2016 15 16 Black TZ The windshield can protect motorcycle enthusiasts from the...
  7. So Coop, so you choke chickens? Different for sure. You tell everyone that, LOL!
  8. Same here, civil disobedience that is. Still on lock down here in Louisiana even though I haven't missed a day of work since this started. Glad to know it's working out to be not as bad as first thought. That 2.2 million number was stout! Luckily models seem to be off by a bit historically. There still hasn't been a model for climate change that has been close to right either, thankfully. I hadn't ridden the bike since last September when we had our last meet in Mountain Home, AR to ride Push Mountain and the Little Dragon just to name a few of the roads. Found a great road, Hwy 125 by Peel's Ferry, AR. That road is excellent. Wore my front to no tread in spots, glad I put it on the trailer for this meet, last of 2019. I got a little disappointed in the bike after a year of riding and it still being a struggle to use the engine braking I'm used to on carb'ed bikes. I guess that's the difference. I have always used engine braking at high RPMs through the corners to adjust my speed through the corners. This bike doesn't have that and I had to use brakes in the corner also. Not sure if it's teaching an old dog new tricks, I'm 60 or just not catching the hang of it. Anyhow it has lead to a bit of not caring to ride the bike. Gonna give it another try this riding season and we'll see if I get it or sell the bike and find something else that works for my riding style. So anyhow, put on new tires last of February and a new chain shortly there after. Rode the bike 48 miles around the lake I live on after both additions for a total of 96 miles for the last 8 months. Then I finally got out day before yesterday for 1 of my routes into the country. I live 30 miles out of town and usually go even further out to ride, less cars and Po-Po, saw 1 off in the distance on this ride. 75 clipped it down to 60 in a 55 right quick. Waved as we passed. Went about 125 miles this time. Went by where they turned Bonnie and Clyde into swiss cheese and took a pic......or it didn't happen, LOL! Going out again this weekend, probably both days. We have a meet in the Ozarks in Arkansas last of the month and want to feel comfortable on the bike for the twisties. Might be test riding a Ninja 1000 but first have to check on insurance for it. Then it has to have some decent engine braking to make the grade.
  9. After going through the whole thread it looks sturdy, clean, light weight, simple and attractive with the cases looking nice and watertight. I like the look on the bike. Mine came with Hebco-Becker cases on a "C" bracket. They stick out a bit as you can see in the pix but hey, they came with the bike and it costs money to change right? I'll keep 'em at this point. Yeah I'm impressed. Good work and it can be repeated for folks on here for a small fee and they can go to HF to get cases. I'm sure it's a good bit of savings over stock bags or aftermarket. Yeah that's my bad-azz Yamaha ZUMA in Yamaha blue on the right. Hey, I was told I'm no longer a Red Neck since I moved to the lake. Now I'm Lake Trash! Well that was 13 years ago so I don't ride my riding mower to the neighbors, I ride my ZUMA!!!!! Completly street legal and 21 bucks every 6 months for insurance. Most of that is theft. They said that's what happens to them the most. Mine is in a locked shed with my bike so I'm pretty good there. Did the carb mod. It does 42 instead of 37 now.
  10. Well, we will decide that after your 90 day trial period, LOL! Naw, Welcome to the Club!
  11. Yeah i catch it from buds on rides for leaving the blinker going, LOL!I had a good habit of turning them off till I owned 3 VMaxes. They have auto cancelers. So I'm trying to get it back, old dog old tricks. Must Make Mind Work, MUST.
  12. I thought about using the phone till I thought about using the phone. Where do I use my GPS the most? Mountains. Where do cell phones have problems getting signal? Mountains. Towers on the ground, satellites in space, yeah I bought a cheap Drive 5" refurb with Lifetime Maps for 59.00 free ship from Amazon a few years ago. It does what I want it to do . Thing I hate? Has a orange warning bar across the top that warns of curves, RR tracks, speed limit, etc. I tried turning it off in the tools but it's still there. The split screen is OK going through cities on Interstate to get you in the correct lane. And it does help if I'm feeling fatigued and the ride leader, uh his names Barry to be exact. At 6:30PM with 30 minutes to the hotel decides he remembers this cool road so he'll change the route and next thing ya know it's 8 to 8:15 when we get back to the room and I'm dog tired. This way at 5:00 to 5:30 I can set the GPS to the hotel and I'm back, have had a shower and am just starting on my 2nd beer when they get back. That's the 1 thing as I get older the mental tiredness from Focus, Focus, Focus gets me earlier in the afternoon. I ride at the front of the pack and it's on like a chicken bone all day except lunch and gas stops. Thankfully I ride with Gen 2 VMaxes. They get 85-100 miles before needing gas bad. Of course they are putting out right at 200 RWHP and just have a 4 gallon tank. Here's my setup. I do have the power wire routed . This was right on install. The top pic has the newer case I got for it. Waterproof, has a visor over the screen to block the sun/glare. Works well. Yeah, cheap GPS = happy user. I don't worry about it. If someone yanks it while I'm off the bike in some city, oh well. I'll just buy another.
  13. You lucky dog you! Cherohala is my favorite. When we go each year we go to Boone, Blowing Rock area first, "Green Eyed Snake" then leave out Wednesday morning to Deals Gap. Joe my buddy rides on down and I put mine on the trailer, hurry down to be the first to cross the Cherohala. This pic was last year, sent it to the group just to razz them.
  14. LMAO! I live in Louisiana with many bugs and even LUV Bugs. My paint on my red 2015 is a OK after many years of bugs. I use Walmart's version of dawn to wash and Turtle Wax Clear. I'm not near as anal as I was 10 years ago about keeping my stuff spotless. I sometimes go a couple of months between washes. Now I do have a couple of chips on my Gold Anodized forks, 😠. Probably comes from riding in packs with friends doing strafing runs, LOL! Had Bob on his ZX14 hit me in the left shoulder with a rock.....boulder is what it felt like. Big ole bruise!
  15. Wordsmith, I'm an older single guy. Single all my life, well never bought the cow so to speak, LOL! I have health insurance and pay cash for my bikes so I run liability and uninsured motorist. The only way the bike isn't paid for is if I "F" up. My insurance on the bike is 73 bucks a year with State Farm. If I screw up I'll just buy another bike and my health insurance covers me. As usual YMMV.
  16. If you can go through the gears up to 10,000 rpms in STD and B mode 2nd through 6th gear and everything is OK, pulls hard, no noises but in A mode it does as you describe it defiantly sounds like an electrical problem. In A mode does it do this in 2nd or 3rd or 5th gears, only 6th? All gears? It doesn't sound like an electrical connection or it would happen no matter what mode, in other words re-plugging all connections probably won't make a difference. Hopefully the re-flash will give you some answers.
  17. This is a little different for a post on what did you do with your FJ/Tracer today? Looks like she did more with it than you did. Glad your OK for the most part and a good attitude. Oh yeah, OUCH!!!
  18. I changed mine at 12,000 miles. I clean with WD40 and a chain cleaning brush. Then wash the bike. Ride it between 4-5 miles to warm the chain and lube it then let the bike sit. I noticed that between 11 and 12,000 miles, when I finished the ride before lubing the chain, I had a few links getting stiff. The sprockets are still great so I just changed my chain.
  19. A lesson I learned early in my life. Most men have problems with this but I haven't. I even ask for directions.....but now I have GPS, LOL!
  20. Same here. Tied the new to the old and pulled it through. My stock cable has not 1 cable thread on it broke so I put it up as a spare.
  21. Same here. It's been beautiful all week till Friday night. It will be raining till Monday when I go back to work. Then it will be beautiful again. Says rain again Wednesday but nice for next weekend. Hate to wish days of my life away but come on Saturday, LOL! Almost forgot Coop, bet that FJ looks GOOD!!!! Well sure, it's an FJ.
