  1. Perfectly sensible to leave the bike in the garage and take the truck. 🥶
  2. I bought my '15 FJ09 3 years ago today as a new-in-crate leftover model. What a fantastic 3 years it has been with this bike. I have spent a lot of time and money making it my own but couldn't be happier with the end result. I have ridden 44,000 miles through 9 states and have never had a break-down or been left stranded, not even a flat tire or dead battery. The bike has ran flawlessly and only needed routine maintenance; 15 oil changes, 8 sets of tires and I am almost halfway through the 3rd set of chain and sprockets. I am looking forward to many more trouble-free miles.
  3. @Clicknow - Just a suggestion if you are looking for switched power, behind the screen there are several unused auxiliary plugs. I have wired in daytime running lights and hardwired my GPS, very convenient as they are only activated with the ignition.
  4. @Clicknow - Take a photo a little further back so we can see where it is located in relation to the rest of the bike. Like @skipperT said, you cant tell where it is located.
  5. Install and ride! You don't need to change or adjust anything on the bike.
  6. I agree with this. I certainly like to ride aggressively in the mountains and canyons but 110hp and 100mph is PLENTY. I "stepped down" from a liter bike and thought I would miss the adrenaline rush but the CP3 is extremely capable. I find that I actually now prefer riding a smaller bike closer to its potential than riding a bigger bike at 50-60%. There have been a few instances where I have wished for a bit more power, mostly steep uphill mountain passes but for most of my riding this bike is more than adequate to get me up to 100mph. A lot of new models like to use HP or top speed as a selling point but other than bragging rights with their buddies, where will a rider use 200HP or ride 210mph?
  7. Proper shock, indeed! Looks good. 👍 How did you get a red spring? My buddy and I both have that same Penske shock, his from Stoltec and mine from Traxxion Dynamics and they both came with dark blue springs. BTW, you are going to LOVE that shock, once it gets dialed in it is AMAZING!!
  8. To add cruise control? or to completely change to a GT? Adding cruise control requires none of those to be changed.
  9. Yes you can add all of the GT extras - heated grips, assist clutch, quick shifter, improved suspension and an aftermarket cruise control, you just cant get the color TFT screen. Cruise Control for Yamaha MT-09 Tracer / FJ-09 - including 2017 model Save your wrist, fuel and licence with McCruise
  10. A couple of years ago when I was talking with the mechanic at the local Yamaha shop, I asked about the new features on the 2017 Yamahas and he said that they would now come with a diagnostic port to connect the reader, no longer accessible through the bikes screen menus. I am not sure if the new code reader would be able to be adapted to our older models.
  11. @wordsmith - It has been a pleasure. I'm glad to have spent the time conversing and sharing ideas. Godspeed to you my friend.
  12. The price tag starts at almost $7k but adds at least 60% more hp and torque! Yamaha MT-09 (FZ-09) Turbo Kit. Performance Motorcycle Accessories, Ninja H2 intercooler kit, MT-FZ Turbo Kit and stunt bike parts from Extreme Creations A complete turbo kit for the Yamaha MT-09 (FZ-09). Dyno proven to run...
  13. The Razor R retail price is $800. K-Tech Suspension Razor-R Rear Shock Yamaha FZ09 MT09 FJ09 XSR900 2014 2017 Fully Adjustable Rebuildable Remote Reservoir
  14. Nice! - Early Christmas present for somebody. 👍
  15. Disassembly of body panels is exactly the same as when you clean your air filter, the ECU is sitting on top of the air box.
  16. What are radial brakes and why do modern sportbikes have them? - RevZilla Radial calipers and radial master cylinders explained.
  17. @wordsmith - If this is your 4th Tracer and you haven't felt the need to flash the ECU for improved fueling on any of the previous models then save your money. Some riders aren't bothered by it. The '15 models were supposedly the worst with jerky fueling and Yamaha reportedly made incremental improvements each year through the present. In addition to a different fuel map, one of the biggest benefits of the flash is removing all speed restrictions and "unleashing the beast" to its full intended potential. Again, if you haven't asked yourself why the on/off throttle response is so lousy after owning 4 Tracers then a flash is something that you might not get much benefit from.
  18. The Alsea Highway is one of my favorites in that area, I love those high banked corners in the woods on the Eastern end
  19. @keithu - Its one of those "now that I have it, I cant imagine living without it" features. With the recent EICMA new bike reveals, there was talk of one of the most requested features being cruise control and more and more models having it as a standard feature now. Now that I have it installed, I use it all of the time. 👍
  20. I agree, having the factory bar dimensions as a baseline would be very helpful to a lot of people who might only want to change one dimension. Handlebar shopping can be trial and error and little changes make a big difference. When I go riding with my brother and/or buddies, we usually swap bikes for awhile and handlebar bend/height and lever placement is the first thing I notice (and get annoyed by). - Though I am extremely picky when it comes to rider ergonomics and control placement.
  21. I sure would. Anytime you alter the ride height it affects the steering geometry. A lot of FJ/Tracer owners raise the fork in the clamps 10-15mm, lowering the front end which sharpens steering. My shock has ride height adjustment so I raised the rear about 5mm and raised the forks about 5-7mm, same end result.
  22. After swapping the lines, I only got out for a brief test ride and everything seemed to work fine. I didn't trigger the ABS but suppose I could brake hard over some loose dirt or gravel to make sure everything cycles as it should. Winter-like weather here as well, if I do take it out it will only be briefly.
  23. I cant see why you would ever need them or want to reuse them. If you look up above the starter motor, between the frame and motor, you will see the 2 hard lines, I cut them there and threw them away once they were removed.
  24. Yes. getting the lines in the fender holders takes some fiddling and patience but it can be done. I got the lines fastened before tightening the banjo bolts.
  25. It looks like your lines are still intact, you must have much more patience than I do. I cut the lines right above the starter motor and pulled each half out in their respective direction.
