  1. @nhchris - Remember that changing final drive gearing doesn't just alter your highway cruising speed, it affects every gear and rpm range. Slower acceleration but higher top speed in his case. I appreciate what Nick was trying to accomplish in his long multi-state highway ride but normal everyday riding, stoplight to stoplight, commuting, sporty riding etc. would suffer as a result. I have mine geared the opposite, quicker acceleration and lower top speed (higher rpm on the highway) and even so, there were several times this summer while riding in the higher elevations of the Rocky Mountains that I still needed to drop 2 gears to make a pass or accelerate up a steep grade/mountain pass.
  2. Any time you disconnect a plug or connector, put a small bit of dielectric grease on the connectors before reassembly.
  3. Do you have a newer Tracer or older FJ? On the older FJ the knurled black knob adjusts the beam up and down and the silver screw adjusts them left and right. I just discovered this myself yesterday.
  4. I was checking/adjusting my headlights and noticed my high beam was pointing far to the left. I found out through this post that the silver screw pictured ('15-'17 FJ09 model) adjusts the lamps left and right. I did not know they were adjustable horizontally. Thank you search function!
  5. Its kind of cool that it isn't a plug and play unit like the Magura and you are piecing it together to make it work. 👍
  6. How does this master cylinder adapt to our bikes? The ones I saw online say they are only for bikes that currently have a hydraulic clutch.
  7. Anything in particular? There are a lot of good options out there to choose from. You are only an hour away from Traxxion Dynamics!
  8. The first time I pulled the linkage pivot bolt it was dry and had started to rust. I don't know what the service interval is but I grease the swingarm and linkage bearings annually. After you have done it once and figured out how everything comes apart, its actually quite easy and I would be very surprised if it took an hour to complete. I do the same thing with a brake fluid flush, annually, regardless of the service interval in the manual.
  9. @piotrek - That's quite a list, it should keep you busy for a while. Curious about the wheel bearings and spacers. Do the spacers wear out? Whenever I have the wheels off I always pull the dust seal from the bearings and pack in a little more fresh grease, not sure what the lifespan of a wheel bearing is though.
  10. @wordsmith - So glad the issue is fixed and it was a simple remedy! @skipperT and @StealthAu - Thanks for helping a stranded rider - Good job. This site and its members are the best. 👍 Other readers (myself included) will hopefully catalog the knowledge for future use.

  12. I haven't taken it out for a ride but the lever pull feels a bit lighter. When I installed the new arm, I lined up the marks like usual and then moved the arm 2-3 teeth further outbound (clock-wise) to get the correct cable adjustment/engagement. YMMV. If we have decent weather, I will try and get out tomorrow for a quick ride.
  13. Where is leaded gas still sold? I thought legislation ended that over 20 years ago. When I talked to 2WDW about fuel, I specifically asked about ethanol-free gas and was told that when they make fuel maps they use pump premium E10 from either Shell of Chevron and non-ethanol gas would run richer.
  14. I installed a clutch arm from an R3. I was reading the FZ09 forum and someone mentioned that the longer arm gives it a slightly lighter pull so I figured I would give it a try, it was $11-$12. The clutch pull IS noticeably lighter but I cant really say a quantifiable percentage. This is the same modification that folks used to do using the clutch arm from the Bolt, except this is cheaper.
  15. Could you post some well lit photos? Would love to see what you have done. - Thanks
  16. Next week I have an appointment for valve check/adjust, spark plug replacement and TB sync. I also need to do the annual greasing of the swingarm and linkage bearings as well as shifter and brake pedal pivots. The suspension isn't due for servicing until next year.
  17. I should have clarified; - not so much labeling the lines as much as knowing which of the 4 ports on the ABS module to connect them to, front/rear/input/output.
  18. Absolutely agree. Thoroughly trace each line visually from start to end, it will become evident where the oem hard lines will need to be cut for removal. Don't bother trying to salvage them, you will never use them again. And only do one line at a time, you don't want to accidentally get them mixed up at the ABS pump.
  19. I installed mine recently. If you have any questions, just ask. Once you get the old lines removed, the new lines are a piece of cake to install.
  20. @dazzler24 - I just wanted subtle accents, so I used silver tape. I contacted CGD Graphics on Ebay, I had them cut me a sheet of 3mm silver stripes, the longest they could make was 24" long, which was plenty. 8x 24" stripes were less than $10 shipped. I also bought the reflective wheel decals from them.
  21. Agreed, it is a fantastic bike but beyond incremental changes over the years, it is a 17 year old design. It still works well for its intended purpose but in today's climate of never ending technology, emission standards and "keeping up with the competition", you either keep up or get left behind. I really hope Yamaha recognizes the FJR's legacy and adapts to the current market with a fresh update (like Honda's Goldwing) and not a forgotten memory.
  22. Good to hear that they are taking care of it. Are going to get a different replacement or just a full refund?
