  1. Never heard of a heated helmet... please elaborate.
  2. Yes, just like the 12v accessory socket, switched on with key. Behind the screen there are 3 additional power leads that you can use to wire in accessories. I use one for daytime running lights and another for my Garmin GPS. I love having easy access to switched power without tapping into a wiring harness!
  3. No, I don't have the Brembo MC. Since I installed the braided brake lines I currently have the oem MC installed. I also have an R1 MC that I might re-install over the winter. @coachluciano - You will need to buy a Mirror Perch Adapter but since it has standard threads you will have to source a reverse thread adapter to fit Yamaha mirrors, I found one a few years ago in the U.K. Mirror adapter shown with reverse thread adapter
  4. @TracerAU - If memory serves me correctly (that happens less often these days) this (occasional hard starting issue) was brought up in the past and at least in that instance it turned out that the battery voltage was ever so slightly low. I may be completely wrong here but at least its a quick, easy check.
  5. @wordsmith, @johnakay - I have heard the same thing concerning gel inserts. I had a custom seat built just over 2 years ago, it has a gel insert maybe 6"x8" in the center where your "sit bones" (official medical terminology) rest on the seat. I have since put 34k miles on the seat in temps between 29F and 114F and have never noticed anything uncomfortable in extreme temperatures, I always wear textile riding pants though.
  6. Curious as to the reasoning behind this? Yes, a Power Commander and dyno tune ($550-$650-ish) will get you a custom fuel map but why spend more and give up all of the other benefits of a professional flash?
  7. @wordsmith - First off, congratulations on your 14 day trip! Please share a ride report when you get the time to relax for a bit. (looking forward to a few words on how the K-Tech parts performed). Again, praise to Bagster for building a top quality seat, BEAUTIFUL fit and finish! Isn't that always how it goes? you get the seat in the mail AFTER returning from the 14 day trip? It sounds like you need another road trip to break-in the new seat... 😎
  8. @alquimista - In my experience, its not so much sprocket wear as it is chain wear. I replace chain and sprockets as a set, I have yet to have a sprocket show noticeable wear or develop hooked teeth like my dirt bikes, its always the chain. Usually the chain starts needing more and more adjustment and develops tight links that produce an annoying slapping action. I am on my 3rd chain/sprocket sets on my FJ and have replaced them around 18k miles.
  9. What did they change on the GT-Air 2 that you didn't like?
  10. There is no advantage to the Yamaha lights other than to claim they are "genuine Yamaha parts". There are MANY threads on here discussing fog/driving lights and various mounting options. I bought Denali DRL's (from forum vendor Twisted Throttle) just to be more visible to oncoming drivers - I don't ride at night. Very high quality product, waterproof and they offer great product /customer support.
  11. @johnakay - Looks good! Its nice to see the olive green (I don't know the exact color) tracer, quite rare. I like the color.
  12. Thanks for the photos and ride report. I definitely need to get out to that area some day. I wouldn't do good in Florida, I need to have elevation changes when I ride.
  13. While I have been adjusting chain tension on bicycles and motorcycles for many decades, how does a new rider "master" chain adjustment when their owners manual feeds them bogus information? Not everyone has had a lifetime of chain adjustment/maintenance like you and me. For many, this might be their first bike or first with a chain - many transitioning from belt or shaft drive. Demeaning others technical abilities or mechanical skills does nothing to boost their confidence and might lead them to not ask for help next time. The best thing a bike owner can do is learn (ask how) to do it themselves and NOT take it to the dealer for simple everyday tasks.
  14. I have OEM heated grips as well as MCCruise for over 2.5 years w/ no issues on my '15.
  15. I used to use it to power my GPS but found that it didn't hold the 12v power supply very well, it always loosened up and constantly lost power. My buddy has a '15 FJ also and his does the same thing with his GPS. Even after having the socket replaced under warranty, it never worked well for me. I stopped using it and hardwired my GPS to the auxiliary power leads behind the screen.
  16. Thanks for the update, if its an extra purchase optional add-on item then I definitely don't need it. I'll save the money for another set of tires... 😎
  17. My '15 is the same, the display says about 47-48mpg but basic math says 44-45mpg. I have only ran it to flashing F-Trip a few times, I am always the one in the group who gets gas before I am close to running out, usually when it drops to one solid bar on the gauge.
  18. Me either. I do a fair bit of tinkering on my bike and I'm pretty good at looking out for irregularities. I haven't noticed any rust.
  19. I'll take your word for it, I was just going by the bikes listed specs. Specs at a Glance Buell Ulysses XB12X Displacement: 1203cc Seat Height: 2006 33.1 inches; 2007 31.8 inches Fuel Capacity: 4.4 gallons Dry Weight: 425 pounds Colors: Barricade Orange, Black Price: $11,495
  20. Congratulations on the new bike, the SHAD bags are a nice addition. Even with the seat in the lowest position, the FJ seat height is actually taller than the Buell or did the FJ come with lowering links? There is a lot of good info on this site to help get your bike set up exactly how you want it.
  21. My son and I recently converted his house to laminate flooring, when we tore the carpet out I kept a 10’x14’ section for my garage. It keeps the garage a bit warmer when working in the winter and it’s quieter when I drop wrenches. I still keep an 18””x18” carpet sample under the center stand.
  22. Galfer also makes brake lines. Like I mentioned previously, The banjo fittings on Spiegler lines are adjustable, I'm not sure if other brands offer this feature and I needed to adjust the angle of each line to fit perfectly. Some fittings only a few degrees while a few fittings I adjusted several degrees.
  23. @piotrek @DavidS @texscottyd and @2and3cylinders I was able to get out for a test ride today and the difference in lever/pedal feel was evident immediately, firmer much sooner and less lever/pedal travel needed to actuate the brakes. The one downside I noticed was actuating the ABS on the rear is now much easier. I actually had to adjust my brake pedal down a bit so my foot travels further since the pedal is much firmer now. I think putting a bungee on the lever and pedal overnight to release air bubbles helped tremendously as there is no spongy feel whatsoever.
  24. Every video I have watched and tech article I have read says that bleeding is exactly the same as a non-ABS bike. I didn't drain the ABS pump but when I removed the lines from the calipers, I pumped the lever or pedal to get a good portion of fluid out of the lines before removing them from the pump. I currently have the lever and pedal bungee'd overnight to release any air bubbles. When the weather clears up, I will take it out for a ride and cycle the system, then give it another quick bleed.
