Out today, I'm sure the last 75F day of the year.

This covered bridge is the longest in PA, 270 ft. it is impressive. I don't like when you can't ride on them though.

Looks like your bike would fit between the posts.  I won't tell anyone.

After an overnight storm, the sky cleared for a couple of hours this afternoon, so I headed to Caeverlock Castle. Lovely ride out, although I might need to switch to a clear visor soon, it was pitch black and raining hard on the way home. No biggie, visor up and no rain on face with the puig touring screen anyway.

Why are some bridges in USA covered?

According to Wikipedia: "The purpose of the covering is to protect the wooden structural members from the weather. Uncovered wooden bridges typically have a lifespan of only 20 years because of the effects of rain and sun, but a covered bridge could last over 100 years."

Now it is a nostalgic fashion choice.  I enjoy riding over actual old covered bridges just as a novel experience like riding through a tunnel.  There are just enough of them left that they can make a destination/excuse to ride when all else fails or a good place to stop for a break.

I think I pitched the idea before, I but genuinely think we should start an 'Interesting Bridges and Tracers' thread.   I've always been intrigued with bridge design (especially interesting older structures), and am always on the lookout for unique ones out in the wild.

Wow! more pics of old castles Stew! Nice!

We've castles round every corner here :) Not joking, you can hardly move for them! Caeverlock is a wild one though, if you google it you'll see the shape.
