Uncovered wooden bridges typically have a lifespan of only 20 years because of the effects of rain and sun, but a covered bridge could last over 100 years." Now it is a nostalgic fashion choice. I enjoy riding over actual old covered bridges just as a novel experience like riding through a tunnel. There are just enough of them left that they can make a destination/excuse to ride when all else fails or a good place to stop for a break. If you like covered bridges do some riding around Lancaster and Bucks County in Pennsylvania. You will see so many, you start to take them for granted. 2 He who dies with the most toys wins. nevada72
Made a run out to the Mississippi River the other day. It was unseasonably warm, mid-70s, and it was fantastic to get in a good ride. Supporting Member betoney Posted November 13, 2020 Supporting Member Share Posted November 13, 2020 @nevada72 - That is a pretty cool app for sharing a route, any hidden fees associated with owning or using it? 1 ***2015 Candy Red FJ-09***

Nope - pretty much free. You can upgrade to one that you can edit. I would have snipped out the duplicate pics on the route I posted for example. But I don't really use it all that much. Just kind of a fun toy. 1

Lovely ride out, although I might need to switch to a clear visor soon, it was pitch black and raining hard on the way home. No biggie, visor up and no rain on face with the puig touring screen anyway. I did look up "your" castle but you can't tell from your photo that it has a moat and it's details. I'm an architectural engineer and will go crazy in GB and Europe (on my bucket list). I'll probably get killed stepping back taking a picture by a passing bus, falling in a hole, trampled by a cow or sheep (any Euro Bison in Scotland?) I don't know how you tolerate your Scorpion helmet, I'd be totally claustrophobic in it. Ever try one of them new fangled brain buckets with an internal drop down sun visor and a PinLock main shield liner? Better yet a flip-front with all the techy features and tack on a BT comm unit...

I value having a face, so no thanks to your flip up's, your open faces etc etc etc I have another full face with more 'slot', and a clear visor with a sun visor inside, but it's for when it is proper winter, not yet. I think that the stupidest looking thing ever is some dude with all the gear on, and the front of his helmet flipped up, you know, like a police motorcyclist, trying desperately to give you a telling off while looking ludicrous. Each to his own mate, you do you. I'll stick with proper full face helmets. I wonder why motogp or motoamerica riders dont wear flip ups?

Your SHARP helmet ratings and our SNELL and other testing has not found flip-ups to be significantly more risky, in fact, some say if you do crash, a flip front is safer to remove. Racing bodies are a conservative lot and a modular makes no sense for racing but heck, they've now made every current racing helmet a Dodo Bird with their new standards, so everything is relative, and as you said, each to their own. If in fact yours is Scorpion Covert (which now comes with a drop down sun visor and has yet again been restyled as the Covet-X), is technically a "modular" 1/2 to 3/4 face with a RUBBER, NOT polycarbonate and advanced composite removable "face mask" HELD ON BY MAGNETS AND PLASTIC SLIP TABS, and why does not SHARP list it, and in the US it is only rated by DOT as a 1/2 beanie? Many F-U get excellent ratings including 100% face guard locking, as do all my Nolan, Kibuto and HJC flippers. And they're much easier to don and remove for us glass 4-eyes, to take a drink and smoke, and swear at your mates. I do have full facers too.

Dodgy Knees
I'm a convert to the flip front helmet. As been said before, for general road use, lay-by cafe, fuel stops, smoke, shopping, chin wag, there very convenient and safe. 🙂👍 But I do know others who ain't keen either. 🤷♂️
Premium Member 1moreroad Posted November 14, 2020 Premium Member Share Posted November 14, 2020 Burned a tank of gas this morning doing a lap of one of our local lakes. One of the bridges collapsed about a year ago and I accidentally routed myself over about 3.5 miles of gravel, maybe half of it was recently laid. 2
