Alex Rins finished 10th Sunday in 140F heat!  Crutchlow tried but couldn't finish, MM knew better to try after FP4...

Was it time for your nap halfway through the race ?

After undergoing wrist surgery on Tuesday, the LCR Honda CASTROL rider defied intense pain to complete all 25 laps at the Jerez Circuit and claim 13th position in hot and challenging conditions in southern Spain.

140F?  60C?  I literally cannot imagine.  I work in upwards of 50C, but... Not in leathers and a helmet.  How do you not die doing that?  There'd be no way to cool off at all; the air is so far above body temp you'd be riding in a bloody blast furnace.  And actually keep your brain working to ride at that level while doing it?  The mind boggles.

I tried to install the Roadlok today. Should be a straight forward job, but it turns out it's not.

The thing is there are some options to choose from and see what fits. There are 2 sets of bolts (80mm and 90mm) and a couple of spacers of different sizes. It takes some measuring but for the 900 GT the type B spacers should do fine (with the 90mm bolts). Until....you put the reflector back on the caliper. Then there's a difference in space between the upper and the lower bolt of the caliper, resulting in the lock not working.

So I thought I would use the smallest spacer (spacer A), add the reflector to it, measure it and make sure I use a spacer for the lower bolt that equals the thickness of spacer A + the reflector. But none of the provided spacers match that thickness. And there is really not much margin. When I use spacer C it only differs 0.25 millimeter from spacer A + the reflector but that is enough for the lock not to work.

Had a chat with Roadlok customer support. They will try to come up with a solution. Let's see how that turns out.

Keithu, how do you find pulling away in first now ?

It's a little different. I found when pulling away and modulating the clutch and throttle as before it almost felt like it was jerking forward unexpectedly, like my hand had slipped off the clutch. This is because any given RPM now equates to a slightly higher moving speed. It's no big deal, I just need to develop slightly different muscle memory on the clutch and throttle when pulling away. It's still entirely manageable and I never felt like I was going to kill it or anything, nor did it feel boring.

Do you really need the reflector? I removed mine a long time ago. (You know, for the massive weight savings.)

Looking at the product, I can understand why it has to sit flat on both bolt hole surfaces.  I would ditch the reflector.

Any recommendations on such tents?  Particularly in terms of being quick to set up/tear down?

Picking a tent for a bike is such a personal thing and is dependant on all sorts of considerations including where & when you intend camping and even in what part of the world you live, also how deep your pockets are.  Some like headroom, space, ease of use, durability, thermal characteristics, etc, etc...

For me and FWIW, I use this one here in AUS and it is mainly used in the warmer temperatures (10-30C).  It fits my brief for ease of deployment, reasonably light weight (for the $), bit of extra room for the bits and pieces and packs away into it's own stuff sack.  The specifications state that it's 2kgs(4.4lbs) Video says 2.7kgs?  Does the job for me. 🙂

Do a search on motorcycle camping tents and you'll get MANY opinions.  Good hunting.

I have a similar looking tent that dazzler has highlighted bought for this years summer tour but not used in anger yet Their are a number of chinese manufacturers making similar tents at reasonable prices. Mine was branded VONTEC, Dome style,  good head room for a small 2 person tent, two alluminium poles, two doors and storage areas very quick to put up mine is coming in at 2.3 KG and a small pack size. Looking forward to using it middle of August

As was mentioned in a previous post I took a hacksaw blade to a cut away a bit of extra plastic under the pillion seat yesterday to free up a bit of extra room to give me a bit more storage space for a small compressor and tools inder the seat. Very quick and easy mod.

Well, fortunately the reflector isn’t a legal requirement so I indeed could remove it.. However, I do have a bit of OCD and don’t like to change the bike when it is not my own choice (tbh, deciding to add the Roadlok was already quite a challenge, but that’s just my own stupid abnormality). And the reflector does add a little bit to the visibility of the bike.

But more importantly, when I buy a 250 euro lock, I would like to think it would fit the bike without having to remove parts from the bike.

The Dutch Roadlok service support didn’t really know what to do, so he contacted the US branche. They also  suggested to remove the reflector. They will get back to me today to let me know if they can provide a different spacer.

Khyam Igloo tent is awesome. It goes up and down in no time, literally under a minute. 3 berth, but tons of room for 2 with all bike gear etc , and can withstand all sorts of bad weather. Used all year round for the past oh, at least 8 years, only issue is the weight, but it is top quality....

If you fit the lock flat on the caliper, would it work correctly to fit the reflector last so it sits between the lock and the bolt head?

I don't think the fork reflector helps at all with visibility when you are riding due to its size and position. I believe its only purpose is so nighttime drivers can more easily see your bike parked on a dark street. So depending on your parking situation this may or may not be valuable.

Nice new Avon Storm 3D XM tyres fitted today. Have used them on the last two bikes without any issues and although it hardly ever rains in Scotland I have always found that they are good in the wet. Unfortunatly getting wheels and tyres down to the shop for fitting took longer than expected so I didn't have time to go out for a wee shot to see if I could feel any difference. Job for later in the week.
