What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?
whisperquiet replied to yamaham's topic in FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions
I installed/balanced a new front Shinko 009 front tire, lubed the chain, and washed the bike. -
That is insane…..change the oil and filter—then ride it—- a lot. This is an easy bike to change oil……exposed, accessible filter and drain plug. $12.00 oil filter and your choice of oil + 20 minutes of your time. Ride 4000-6000 miles and repeat. BTW, I have not synced the throttle bodies at 11,550 miles and it runs great. I will sync them at some point. I’ve checked the sync on my Super Tenere three times in 47,000 miles and they were spot on all three times.

How smooth is your engine?
whisperquiet replied to petshark's topic in FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions
I currently own the Tracer GT, a 2015 Super Tenere, and a 2021 Tenere 700.....the Tracer GT and Tenere 700 engines are fabulous -- the Super Tenere engine is agricultural by comparison. I've owned 85 motorcycles in 50 years and the only other engine that compares was my ST1300 engine which was sublime. -
I have owned a NoMar tire changer and balancer for a dozen years. I used to use a shovel to break the tire bead on most wheels/tires.....works great and a lot easier than tire irons at home.

Hand bar raiser... Recommendation?
whisperquiet replied to alquimista's topic in FJ-09 Parts and Accessory reviews
I just installed a set of Moto Pump handlebar risers.....fit great with great instructions. I also raised the fork tubes about 15mm to quicken the steering. USA manufactured in NY with quick shipping and a fair price. Many issues - revisited

OP.....if I had half as many problems with my motorcycle that you have indicated, it would have been long gone.....long gone. The difference between bad children and bad motorcycles.....you can get rid of a bad motorcycle. -
I am thinking about buying these for my '19 GT. Yamaha FJ-09, MT-09, Tracer 900, Tracer 900 GT Offset Bar Risers 25mm — MotoPumps - The Best 12v Inflators on the Planet Offset Bar Risers for the Yamaha FJ, Tracer, Tracer GT. 2015 through...

Change in Yamalube Yamacool Engine Coolant Color/Chemistry
whisperquiet replied to nsmiller's topic in FJ-09 Tech Questions
I changed out the OEM blue Yamaha coolant on my 2015 Super Tenere at 46500 miles yesterday and replaced it with Shell Zone 50/50 premix coolant safe for aluminum engines. The new stuff is orange and was running about 4 degrees cooler on a 200 mile ride today. YMMV -
What Exhaust systems work with the Center Stand?
whisperquiet replied to CRFan250's topic in Tracer 900 GT Discussions
The original exhaust system fits and works great.👍🏍 -
I would add one other suggestion.....if you do get off the bike, do not walk back towards the officer as he/she is trying to watch traffic and you.

I like my Ogio tail bag that has been on a few bikes.....built in rain cover and some nice features. OGIO Tail Bag Take whatever you need on your next adventure, be it a day on the open...

With your long distance riding history you could have just worn out the OEM tires in three days of riding....amirite?

If Pete and Repete are sitting on a log and Pete falls off, who is left...............

I would go with blue locktite so it isn't a pita to remove later. I have had my handguard bolts out....no loctite....re-installed and have never loosened up on my '19 900 GT with the heated grips on all winter.

Front brake light switch recall, 900GT
whisperquiet replied to gv550's topic in FJ-09 Tracer 900 General Discussions
And, wonder of wonders, Yamaha provides another wiring tie to replace the one that has to be cut from the center support frame for the fairing/headlight assembly. The extra tie and front brake wiring harness are in the same package for the recall. The Super Tenere kit has the front brake light switch/harness only. -
Welcome to the forum Warchild, I didn't think your distance record could be topped. Also, welcome to my world of aging and riding more appropriate motorcycles......for me, Goldwing 1500, ST1100, ST1300, BMW R1200GSA, current Super Tenere, Tracer 900 GT, and Tenere 700. It is the first time that I am all Yamaha in almost fifty years of riding.

Has anyone tried one of these windshield “spoilers”
whisperquiet replied to Just-Tim's topic in Tracer 900 GT Discussions
Yes, my bike came with the tall Puig which is running in the middle adjustable spot on my GT. -
Take and post 10 clear pictures.....that will help us.

How about an organizer for luggage?
whisperquiet replied to Just-Tim's topic in Tracer 900 GT Discussions
I don’t keep anything critical to my life in my unlocked soft tank and tail bags. I did have a helmet stolen off my motorcycle about 45 years ago......it was hanging on my my mirror if I recall. I do lock my helmet to my bike with a gun cable lock to prevent casual, opportunistic theft. -
How about an organizer for luggage?
whisperquiet replied to Just-Tim's topic in Tracer 900 GT Discussions
Locally, I run only a tank bag and tail trunk. On a trip, I run the saddlebags which are filled with clothes and other items rarely accessed to the end of the riding day. The items like you mention are carried in the tank bag and tail trunk......lighter and easily accessible. -
I soak my helmet liners with just a tiny bit of Woolite added......smells like new until it doesn’t again.
