What did you do to your FJ-tracer-gt today?

You might find another blank canvas with the T7 when it comes out now that I think about it a bit more... The T7 frame/suspension from my research online over the years, is that the T7 is a very close copy of a 2008 WR450F... Which makes sense to me to use an off road frame for the T7 vs using the frame off the FZ-07...

 Thanks that's a great Idea norcal16. That will put me way ahead of the game. now I just have to find a crashed Tenere. that is going to be a while. I already have a 04 WR450F street-legal Supermoto, just feel I'm beating it to death riding it too much on the road.

This is gonna be fun , especially after spending from May until November recovering from a bad motorcycle crash and replacing my totaled 6 week old XSR900 with this one.

I've been looking at my bike since I picked it up in November and trying to decide if I wanted to keep the hand guards on. Today I decided to take them off.  As someone else pointed out, it's kind of like Yamaha is pretending that this is an adventure bike and it's not. I bought 2 hex head bolts at Home Depot to use with part of the existing set up temporarily, until I get the bar ends that I ordered. After talking to the Yamaha parts guy, I ordered the stock FZ 09 ones as he pointed out that they are steel and help reduce handlebar vibration.  I think the bike looks way better without the hand guards. For good measure I also took off the front reflectors at the bottom of the fork. Much cleaner. At least I only spent 2 bucks today. I am not going to do a tidy tail but I wondering if there is a license plate bracket to replace the stock one, so I can eliminate the rear reflectors too.

@chesterburnet - We’re on the same wavelength...  I pulled the front fork reflectors on day one, along with the ridiculous stock peg feelers.   

I’m also happily without the hand guards, and running the OEM FZ9 heavy steel bar ends..   clean, simple, and work perfectly.

Of course, what you REALLY want are the Super Tenere LED turn signals...  :)

Of course, what you REALLY want are the Super Tenere LED turn signals...  :) 

I'm going to do the rear license plate mod before I go out riding tomorrow. I love it. I don't want to lose the rear fender but I definitely want to clean it up. I'm going to do new turn signals eventually.

This weekend I made a license plate holder so that I could attach the reflectors that came with the bike.  I know most remove reflectors, they don't bother me to the point where I feel the benefit of them out weights how they look .  The Evotech tail tidy dint have provisions although it did come with a bracket and reflector that I think was supposed to attach to the license plate itself. I used 1/8 aluminum plate.  After painting, I attached the Evotech supplied bracket and reflector using rivets.  The two U-shaped cutouts at the bottom are there to allow water to drain from behind the license plate.

That's an exceptionally neat job, captfire - nicely done!   Can you now fit the OE hard panniers without the relocated pumpkins getting in the way?   I'd like to know please.  And - how did you cut the 1/8th ally plate?

I don't know if the panniers will fit, I don't have a set.  My thought are they will not, and that if I get a set at some point, its a quick change back to the original fender, and I might get a set of LED signal lights at some point so that the fender and tail tidy can each have signals attached.

I used a hole saw on my drill press to cut the holes and then screws the plate to a plank and used my reciprocating saw with fine tooth blade to cut the straight sections (I don't have a band saw yet). Made the bends on my hydraulic press.

Took it into the wild... suburban edition. First outing of 2019... had a bunch of things done over the winter, so rode it conservatively. I was anxious about the suspension bits, but happy to report that it, and other mods worked very, very nicely:

  • Suspension (Nitron NTR R1 shock and Race Tech Gold Valve fork piston kit)
  • Front Brakes (320mm 2015 R1 rotors and ECB sintered pads)
  • Screen (Madstad 22")
  • Exhaust (Scorpion Serket slip-on)
  • Levers (People's Republic brand of some kind)

There were other mods... but these five will be most impactful on my riding experience. Money very well spent. It is going to be a great riding season. 😀
